We'll have to see if Rodgers is ready, but regardless, I don't see much reason to pursue an extension with DJLM with so many options filtering through the farm. You can try to bring him back next fall, or pursue someone else, once you know how the picture looks after the 2018 season.

Why did people say the Rockies OF us bad. Dahl isn't far removed from being a top 100 prospect same with Tapia who is one of MLBs fastest, also Parra is a solid enough player. Those three with Blackmon would be fine, no?
Jeffrey Todd
4:10
Not sure why they really felt a strong need for CarGo at 8 mil. But maybe they weren't fully convinced those guys would be enough. The thing that's curious here, though, is that ALL of them hit from the left side. (Plus Desmond, a righty.)

Should we trade for someone like betances or trienen
Jeffrey Todd
4:11
Well yes, but also no, because the cost to do so right now would be exorbitant.

3 years 48 million to extend Brian Dozier. Who says no?
Jeffrey Todd

He says the team just isn't interested. I'm surprised, just b/c you'd think it would be worth it to the org at some price point. I mean, if he wants to try to work something out, why not at least sit down and listen. Perhaps the team forthrightly says "yeah even 3/36, while eminently reasonable for you, is just more than we want to pay." Perhaps there's no real likelihood of a deal. But I guess from the outside it seems surprising they wouldn't at least see what it'd take.
Given what Dozier has said, I don't think the team would go anywhere near 3/48, though that'd be a pretty fair price -- at least before this godforsaken FA market.

The Desmond signing continues to baffle and confound. And handcuff the organization.
Jeffrey Todd

Never made a ton of sense. But, they said, they were signing ballplayers they liked, no matter the fit. Guess that's why they just signed another LHH OF. But they, proof is in the pudding, I'll reserve judgment.

I don’t understand why the Tigers and then the Reds and A’s would DFA Jairo Labourt when he has an option remaining. I thought that meant he could be left off 40-man and sent to minors. What am I misunderstanding?
Jeffrey Todd
4:17
To option a guy means to send him to the minors while keeping him on the 40-man.

Which is worse... Tiger offense or Tiger pitching?
Jeffrey Todd
4:19
That is a very fair question, which indicates how  ugly this season could be.

For me, I guess, it's not likely the O's offer enough to get it done since there's some evidence Cobb is still holding out for a decent size contract. But perhaps there'll be enough pressure on both sides that something gets done.

Charlie Blackmon, is he only an elite player/star in Colorado?  Is he just average anywhere else?
Jeffrey Todd
4:22
No I think he's a very good player anywhere. Coors is funky enough that it probably benefits some players more than others (and hurts some more than others). But generally, it just amplifies batting lines.

the players are very resistant to adding pitch clocks! I don't think "they would consider it beneficial for everyone"
Jeffrey Todd
4:27
I know. The point is, the league does. So when they say, "hey we are doing this pitch clock thing," and the players say "only if you free us a year early," the league will laugh and explain that they expect the change to increase earnings for everyone so why would they agree to such a thing.

By the end of the chat, I'm often looking at similar questions for the 13th time. And the chats are an opportunity to go a little beyond the stuff we hammer over and over on the site. A couple questions doesn't seem out of line to me, but whatever.
Do you want me to continue answer non-baseball questions here and there?
