What's at the top of your MLB bucket list?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Dream world: Vin Scully.
Meeting him, that is.
3:26
More realistically, I haven't been to a ton of parks and I'd like to do more of that, but honestly the whole new ballpark building craze is a big turnoff to me. I find the Braves and Rangers and DBacks park plans rather disturbing on several levels.

Why are people sleeping on my Red Sox and giving the East to the Yankees? They seem to forget how much better Boston got just by getting healthy. With Smith and Thornburg healthy, the bullpen is going to be even better than last year
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
I wouldn't sleep on Boston. Especially since, as hinted above, they could still make a major mid-season addition if required. Only way Yanks do that is if they pursue some kind of blockbuster (and give up a ton of prospect value) for a cheap, young player. Sox still can spend money.

Speaking of the Padres. Adam Cimber has great number this spring, but he's 26 yo. , they're spring numbers, and he's not generally regarded as a prospect. What does a strong spring mean for a guy like him and his chances to make his MLB debut?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
Esp with relievers, teams are looking at present-day stuff. The showing in the game action matters a fair bit for a guy in his shoes, to be sure, but it's more of a confirmation of what they are seeing in all his other work. If he looks middling in bullpen sessions but has gotten some decent results in a short sample, that's enough. In Cimber's case, seems the org is generally impressed though. Fact that he's sort of a late-blooming non-prospect doesn't really matter. Lots of other guys have gone that route for a variety of reasons.
3:31
Point of that is to give some of my thoughts on spring numbers. Unless you see somebody just posting absurd K numbers or something, and know it's against legit MLB competition, or clearly struggling badly with command, it's hard to read too much into the numbers.

Holland to the Cardinals is so obvious it's amazing it hasn't happened.
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
They either really aren't that interested or are playing coy.

Thoughts on Yanks/Red Sox in England?
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
Find it strange that people have such strong opinions on it. Seems, generally, like a cool event if put together properly. I remember going to see AC Milan at RFK when I was like 10 years old and that was really a fun experience. Why not share the joy of our respective games around the globe?
Plus the logistics are more manageable than Australia/Korea. Not that much harder to go across the Atlantic than across the US.

Is the service time manipulation unfixable?
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
I've yet to see a very satisfying proposal. If you move the target, you'll just end up with somewhat different controversies at somewhat different points in time.
3:37
Take Trea Turner in 2016. Nobody really was clamoring for him to open the year, so that wasn't a controversy. But by mid-season, it was clear he was going to come up at some point. So if the timing was different, maybe he'd be the poster child. "Can you believe they waited til August 1 just so Trea's clock wouldn't start," etc.

Should the Nats just trade Harper at this point? They are about to lose him to free agency and they clearly have no interest in making that big trade/signing to push them over the top.
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
Like, right now? That would be a strange decision indeed.
First of all, they have said repeatedly they want to try to re-sign him or even extend him. I don't think the latter is likely, but the Lerners and Boras did get together on Strasburg and Boras just worked out a deal for Altuve.
3:39
Second, it isn't always worth trading guys in their final season of control, right? If the Nats didn't have one season of Harper, they'd look like a really good candidate to trade for ... one season of Harper. He fits the roster quite well, unsurprisingly.
3:40
Finally, though they didn't make a splash this winter, the Nats certainly have done so in the past when it wasn't strictly necessary (Scherzer, Eaton). And could still be a deadline player.

3:41
Does it make sense for the Mets to trade Lagares?
Jeffrey Todd
3:41
No, because they need a right-handed-hitting CF and won't be able to trade him without eating money.
Jesse
3:43
How soon do you think the Brewers regret not you know, actually making a solid addition to the rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
Still time left!
And the deadline is always a possibility. They also are entitled to try out their opinions on their internal guys.
Adam
3:44
The dodgers have enough major league caliber OF for two teams. It doesn’t look like anyone will take Kemp’s contract (and the fact that he actually looks great this spring). They gotta move someone right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:45
How many times have we asked that same question about a certain portion of the Dodgers' roster? This time, the Turner injury creates an opening since it'll draw some of the utility guys into the infield. They are going to maintain as much versatility as they can. But yeah, something has to give at some point. A guy like Thompson could end up on waivers or in a minor deal.

3:46
What are the odds Harper gets traded at the deadline? If the division is close between the Nats and another team maybe keep him, but if they're going to run away with it does it make sense to trade him and get some good prospects back.
Jeffrey Todd
3:47
What is going on today guys? You're telling me that if the Nats are running away with the division they are going to trade their best player in the middle of the season?!

Toughest division? Yay or nay

This year I want to take a family vacation close to an eastern U.S. ballpark. I have been to Yankee stadium, Camden Yards & CBP. Where would you suggest I head next?
Jeffrey Todd
3:51
Fenway is the obvious choice here. Gotta make it there. Sit in the right field bleachers.
3:52
Last time I was there, some dude gave my wife and I tickets outside the park. 4 hours later we were walking around the North End to get dinner and he drove up to a stop sign next to us in a convertible and asked how the game was. One of my favorite random coincidences.
Also I ran into one of my best friends outside Wrigley randomly. Neither of us had any idea the other was in Chicago.
Okay, story time is over. More transactional questions ...
