As great as he is, why did the Stros feel the need to lock up Altuve at full freight two years before free agency?  Also, for all we know 30m/year will be way overpaid at that point for any player, esp one entering his 30s whose game relies on speed and quick hands.

Don't think the annual rate will be high for a premium player, but otherwise, it's not an unfair point. They didn't really need to do it. Altuve isn't particularly young. I admit I was a bit surprised. But if they really believe he's going to carry the general performance level into his mid-30s, it will probably end up looking cheap. I don't think that annual salaries are suddenly going to nose dive for top players.

Family pizza night once every other week or so is great. A well-prepared, quality cut of steak is as well. Under no circumstances should taco bell enter the equation!
(I vote pizza. Good steak is too expensive and a choking hazard.)

The idea with trading Harper is it's a do-or-die year for the Nats and they don't seem willing to make that big move to fill a need (like Chapman for the Cubs or Verlander for the Astros) so they should get something for Harper while they can. And trading him doesn't mean they can't sign him next offseason.
