Kinda surprised the Rangers haven't signed him yet. Seems like he could sign right onto a MLB roster. But that's hardly certain. Timing of the move didn't really do him any favors.

He's 32 and just wasn't the same last year as he had been previously. I don't expect him to be a dominant closer. Not saying it isn't possible, but ... I was asked for a prediction. Just a guess.

He'll probably sign a minors deal but could well get a shot fairly early on. Teams that just don't have settled OF situations -- Tigers, Marlins, maybe White Sox -- could give him a look and legit hope of a near-term opportunity.

He's too good a hitter to just drop into pure part-time action unless he suddenly struggles. But he has also had loads of little injuries, so it's sensible to give him regular rest. Maybe he ends up with ~475 PAs and is fresh for the stretch/postseason? Will be interesting to see.

By the nature of the award, you're looking for someone who is very talented but struggled recently, so he seems as good a guess as any. Hitting in front of JD Martinez probably won't hurt.

I doubt the FO is just foolishly preventing young guys from getting the opportunity they need and deserve. If and when it makes sense, they'll bump more players up and clear out the veterans. But lots of teams use the strategy of filling out the bench with experienced, solid type players.

You know, I don't know. The 3 catcher thing can make clear sense in some circumstances and for portions of the season, but it seems a bit curious when you have a guy (Hedges) who ought to be a horse back there. Maybe it won't last. Honestly I didn't know they were doing that til you just mentioned it. (Hope you aren't lying to me!!!)

Let's not forget that teams do funny things to open the year sometimes. Whether that's b/c they think it'll be easier to get a guy through waivers a few days in, the lack of a need for a fifth starter, etc. Could just sort itself out shortly.
