Why are the Braves playing Jose Bautista??? Do you feel like Riley is soon to come up and take over for Joeybats?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
Well they haven't been shy about giving chances to younger players. Joey Bats is going to get some run now that he's there. I suspect they aren't fully convinced Riley is ready for the majors.
Let's not forget how unusual it is already that they have three guys not yet of drinking age that are playing at such a high level. I don't want to say "don't be greedy," but ... try to keep expectations in line with those of typical prospects.
3:37
And don't get too carried away with the performances. There is some regression coming in some cases and then some instances where players will have to adjust as the league reacts to them.

With Weiters out indefinitely with hamstring surgery (something catchers need to be healthy), who do you think makes the most sense to target for the Nats?
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
I think they have to be in strong on Realmuto and see if they can get him without giving up Robles or Soto. But he is absolutely raking ... price going up?
3:39
Otherwise you've got Ramos and Lucroy as the clear rental pieces, if their teams are willing to sell. We don't yet know. Could be that either or both are really plausible AL Wild Card contenders.

What’s a bigger concern for Arizona: an underwhelming offense or an overworked bullpen?
Jeffrey Todd
3:40
I'll take the thin rotation
They were never as good as their record. And have had some poor injury luck. Sad.
Also what happened to Goldschmidt?
Nationals
3:41
Stock piled with Outfielders...Soto, MAT, Eaton, Goodwin, Stevenson, Harper, Robles, Kendrick...one of these will be moved for a pitcher(s) this season, right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
Yeah but not all of those are really trade pieces, are they? I mean, I can imagine Taylor or Goodwin or Stevenson being included to help a contender fill in their lineup and to some extent pick up a little free upside. But one of those guys could well end up being a 40-man casualty at some point regardless. Still not convinced they'll give up Robles or Soto.

A website note: On Chrome I get a DNS hosting error with a cute dog.  Works on Explorer.  Just started happening yesterday.
Jeffrey Todd

That issue has been resolved. You may need to clear your cache, though.

If David Wright gets cleared, what will his timetable for return be?
Jeffrey Todd
3:44
I mean ... nobody knows, man. There won't be a traditional timetable. He'll start going out on the field again and we'll see if he can play at all.

Any word on rafael palmeiro's comeback?
Jeffrey Todd

I don't know but this gets me thinking ...

Schoop
3:46
Any reason not to mention schoop as a fit for M's in the earlier article is it just how long I'm under control
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
Yeah it's just that he's a big trade piece that'd cost a lot, so you wouldn't really expect the M's to be willing to pay what it'd take when Cano will be back.

Ken Rosenthal mentioned Grandal as a fit for the Twins, what is your take? Anyone else you think they will target?
Jeffrey Todd
3:48
But why are the Dodgers trading him? I guess if they have just totally collapsed by the deadline, but .... doesn't seem like you'd sit back and expect him to be available.
Cubs
3:48
Machado or Harper or both for the cubs this year/ offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:48
Both? Really? That's rather unrealistic, honestly.
3:49
I would guess it's at most 50/50 they land one of those two. Not b/c they aren't a prime contender to do so, but b/c a lot of other teams will be after them.
Molina
3:50
The article on Kelly says Molina will be out until early April. Typo, or did I miss something?
Jeffrey Todd
3:50
Oh.
Allow me to run and fix that.

What can the Reds get for Gennett and when will he get traded?
Jeffrey Todd
3:51
He is hitting lefties this year! But it's only forty PAs. Hmmm he has kinda been raking for a while now. Still depends upon supply/demand, though. Remember that JD Martinez got nothing back.
3:52
I think the ultimate return is tough to guess in that case b/c it is very market dependent. It's at least somewhat easier to guess at a Machado, say, b/c he's such a big asset and is a guy who'll be pursued in part by teams that want to re-sign him.

If the Mets are out of it by the trade deadline...any chance they look at trading DeGrom/Syndergaard? Other than Familia they are their only real pieces of value for a rebuild.
Jeffrey Todd
3:53
I don't know, that is a TOUGH sell for that fanbase.
With money invested in Cespedes, Bruce and some others, it's tough to just pull the plug on guys like that. It's not like the outlook for 2019 and beyond is particularly poor, so not sure how they'd go into full rebuild.
So ... I expect they'll stay even if the Mets are limping at the deadline.

The only way Swihart isn't playing over Leon is if the pitchers Leon catches (Sale, Porcello i think) got involved, no? He doesn't seem so bad defensively from the eye test...but Pedrioa returns soon.
Jeffrey Todd
3:55
Think we have to acknowledge that we just don't know. Maybe he just has no concept of how to strategize against different batters, even if the physical skills are okay? Truly not trying to speculate and suggest that. Just saying that it's very hard to judge without inside info.

At this point, if both were FA, would Betts really get a contract much different than Harper?
