Can't see how they don't at this point. Question is whether it's a really good one or more of a time-share type.
Les Gomez
3:29
What would it take for the Mets to land Moustakas and Herrera?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
There's at least one Mets fan that's still a believer.
3:30
Don't really see them going after that duo, but even if they did, KCR is going to want to let some bidding go on those players. Herrera, in particular, will be a nice chip for them.
Dave
3:31
Chances Werth makes the Mariners?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
Seems reasonably likely he'll end up on the MLB roster at some point. They wouldn't have brought him in if they didn't have a real reason to believe they might. Teams don't want to jerk around really established veterans like that. It's not certain, but if there's an opening I bet it happens. And he'd also be cut free to pursue another opportunity if they really don't think they'll use him and he asks out.

Does MLBTR have any special trade deadline reports in the works?
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
Trade deadline power rankings! Those are always fun, but take FOREVER. I notice several other outlets have decided to do their own lists this year, and have already released them, but I think ours will be better thought-out and more worthwhile.

3:33
Hey Jeff, do any of you MLBTR writers ever see eachother in person?
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
From time to time. Winter Meetings, in some years, mostly.
Steve and I also met in DC for the Nats-Dodgers NLDS ... game 4 I believe ... and it was called as we walked up to the gates. Phantom rain-out as it turned out. (Yes I'm bitter.)

3:35
Speaking of Ramos, a good fit for the Brewers potentially?
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
Sure, and many other teams, honestly.
Todd
3:37
Kirby Yates, Brad Hand and Adam Cimber for Triston McKenzie, Nolan Jones and Will Benson. Who says no?
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
Without getting into the specifics of the package ... I mean, I get the idea here to some extent. But can the Padres really just dump their entire pen -- all controllable, cost-efficient guys -- for more prospects? Not sure.
Also have to like the idea of individually marketing Yates and Hand and seeing whether you can get this kind of package for the latter alone ...
Get excited, Atlanta sports fans!

Peter Bourjos is here for tonight’s game. Dustin Peterson was optioned to Gwinnett last night.
(I have no problem with Petey Bo, just I know how angry his presence on the roster was making Braves fans previously.)
Oh and there's something ...
@mlbbowman
now
Aaron Blair was released to create a roster spot for Bourjos.

We can officially put a point back on Dave Stewart's side in the retrospective scoring of the Shelby Miller trade.

Come on now...
Jeffrey Todd
3:41
It's time, isn't it? Unless you just aren't really going to keep trying to win this year.

Either Soto goes down, unlikely..... Or Goodwin is the odd man out
Jeffrey Todd
3:42
Right. Time still to sort this out, but that would be my guess. Goodwin is a useful player, so it'd stink to just dump him on the wire, but are you really going to be able to pull of a mid-June deal involving him? Dunno. Maybe for a decent reliever or something, but that's the kind of trade idea us outsiders often think of but rarely ends up happening.
Dave
3:43
I'm sure you're tired of this question, because there isn't a real/good answer. But when do the O's start selling?
Jeffrey Todd
3:44
There actually is a good answer, I think. It is: "whenever someone makes an offer that you feel is compelling enough to give up the ability to field further offers later in the summer trade period." At least w/r/t the team's rental assets, that is. Just no reason to carry on a charade  about not selling until you really and truly are out of it, because they are.

How long will the Tigers go with V-Mart? He's not doing as well as Ramirez and look what happened to him..
Jeffrey Todd
3:45
Needless to say, vastly different situations. I expect VMart will finish out the year there just b/c he's a respected dude and all that. But we'll see.
Scotty Smalls
3:45
Are the Orioles going to find a way to bungle this rebuild too?
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
Aren't you glad they at least had a nice run and outperformed expectations for a few years? And don't they deserve a chance to try a few rebuilding moves before you issue judgment?
You're killing me, Smalls.
3:47
I mostly just wanted a reason to say that. But generally, I do not think we ought to issue pre-judgment here. Some of the major criticisms of the O's strategy of late ... don't they at least make you wonder to what extent Peter Angelos has sort of created parameters for the FO? There's obviously some organizational change afoot. Let's see how that all shakes out a bit, and how it translates down to the player transactional decisions.

One last shot? @NYPost_Mets

Alderson expects David Wright to transition into baseball activity within the next one to three weeks.

If Josh Donaldson struggles with injury and inconsistency (likely due to injury) all year does he sign a 1 year bounce back deal ?  (he's already made more than 50M already so he's set as it is)
Jeffrey Todd
3:49
Ehhhh too many variables to answer that now, but I'd be surprised. Perhaps more likely --- with his age and history -- he could end up with some kind of a Cespedes-y contract. (That is, the three-year deal with the significant AAV and opt-out that he signed the first time he was a FA.)

I'm just gonna say it: Red Sox DFA'd Hanley to make room for Rafael Palmeiro.

Can confirm.

My question is...has baseball lost its heart, identity, and most importantly, it's appeal? 42 year old fan/former player losing interest here
