Degrom for machado? Mets can give machado a taste of NY, and Orioles get a stud for 2+ more years??
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Seems like O's fans need to adjust expectations. No, you're not getting a high-end, controllable MLB starter for a Machado rental.
Really good prospects? Sure. Quality, controllable MLB player? Perhaps.

Does AA make a move for Donaldson with a three year extension in mind?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Prediction: no player will sign an extension this year after being acquired via trade.
3:23
Re-sign with a team they were traded to? Sure, why not.
But the Braves aren't weighing that possibility in the balance when considering their options. It could creep into the thought process on a young, elite guy like Machado, perhaps, but even then it probably doesn't really have a significant impact on the trade package.
3:24
(make that: the calculus of what a team would give up in a trade package)

Am I the next big call up?  If not, who is?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
No b/c I think the Jays are accepting their fate here. That's how I read the aforementioned Morosi report: they are going to slow roll him.
Jake Junis Priest
3:25
Was surprised to see Bauers get the call. Do you think it's temporary?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Quotes I saw suggested they want to give him some run.

Is Sonny Gray back on track after last nights start?
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
Yeah and Jayson Heyward is now going to make good on his contract.
(Sorry, not trying to be terse, but Steve and I were rolling our eyes about the Heyward narrative last night.)
3:27
Bottom line: you have to take a broader look at these things. Can a player find something in one outing? Perhaps. But we won't know if there even might be something to it for several more.
Torres
3:27
Would the yankees part with Torres for a true number 1 starter?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
Not seeing it.
Steve

Mariners smoke and mirrors or do they have a chance at the playoffs?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
Absolutely have a chance. Can't dismiss the mere fact that they have the W/L record they do at present. Have to be assume they'll be aggressive at the deadline. Heck Cano will even be back, at least for the end of the regular season.
Friar Faithful

If that padres are still hovering around .500 at the deadline, do you think they could be active at the deadline on both the buying and selling side (selling short term pieces like Ross, but maybe buying guys with control like Archer/Fulmer)?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
I don't think they will really be hanging around, b/c one or more teams will probably push out in the division and the WC will be even further out of reach.
But if they are, then ... eh, not really.
I mean, maybe!
3:30
But we hear this sort of talk quite a lot and how often does it happen? Reason you don't is that you can't just get rid of your most effective starter and expect to keep pace as other teams improve.
3:31
You can reshuffle a bit and stay competitive, and maybe even stay in the hunt or make it, but teams don't really behave in a true "buyer and seller" fashion the way that is often hypothesized.
(Also b/c other, more realistic contenders will pay more for the assets that would be bought.)

What kind of return could we expect for James Shields?
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
I really am not sure another team is going to want him on the roster very much. Even if they do, they probably won't want to take on enough salary to make it worth it to the White Sox. He's the veteran mentor dude to a very inexperienced staff.

Do you like Lunchables?
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
Horrifying product ... disgusting waste (disposable plastic) and food content.
3:35
Man I'm feeling salty today, sorry. Don't ask me how I feel about any other consumer products!
(That said, I did feast on some lunchables on rare occasions back inthe day.)

who do the nats send down to make room for eaton, murphy and zimmerman
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
I was halfway through a long post on this subject when other stuff arose today. I haven't finished it, so I don't really know how I feel yet.
3:37
Soooo hard to sent Soto down, but it's probably that or dump Goodwin. Maybe they can get something out of him.
Still other moves need once they are all back, too.
3:38
Guessing Reynolds won't look so hot by that point. Shrug.
Jerzy
3:38
Do the Mets need to do a sell off despite what Alderson said?
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
It truly is too soon to say. Suppose they welcome Noah and Yo back and rip off a 8-3 run or something ... suddenly back at .500.
