Should be preparing for that possibility more than one where they are buying, though.
O the Magic
3:39
After Machado, which expiring contract Oriole has the most trade value: Brach, Britton, or Jones?
Jeffrey Todd
3:39
Britton easily has the most potential value of that trio, but we don't know how he'll look yet.
JW
3:40
Should the Cardinals be open to including Reyes in deals at the deadline for the right player?  It just doesn't seem like he's ever going to make it in STL.
Jeffrey Todd
3:41
This sort of move has been done before and I wouldn't rule it out entirely. But there's no reason to think he just can't "make it in STL" as opposed to any other place. The injury situation is quite worrisome and they'd be selling him for pennies on the dollar.
What's hard too is that he's running up MLB service time. Profar-esque.
ALL CAPS
3:41
Not baseball related but are you going to watch Game 5 of the Stanley Cup?
Jeffrey Todd
3:41
Rarely watch other sports, but will make an exception for this as a DC-area native, yes.
Jake Junis Priest
3:42
DFA Brad Miller? Does that mean he's going to Seattle? Or will they just stick with Dee at 2B?
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
I tend to think Miller will clear and then sign wherever he has the most opportunity. Haven't looked close enough to have a good guess since the move just went down.
Louis Morande
3:43
Would Rockies give up Brendan Rodgers for Jose Abreu?
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
Seems foolish.
Yankees
3:43
Do you see the Yankees making a run at DeGrom?
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
I mean, what would the Mets ask for? Can you even imagine?
3:44
It'll be hard for any team to pry him loose. The Yankees? Oof.
Andrew
3:45
Has Donaldson's value fallen greatly this season? Should they have traded him in the offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:45
It has fallen quite a bit. Everything has to go right for him to return good value this summer.
3:46
In retrospect, of course they should have traded him. But I don't think the ensuing results (for him and team) should necessarily dictate our assessment of the decisionmaking at the time.
Sammy
3:46
How is Jose Reyes still on an MLB 25 man roster?
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
Got me there.
Chris
3:48
What position you playing these days, Jeff? I hear your crushing it in amateur ball...
Jeffrey Todd
3:48
Always catcher. But I'm not playing right now. Maybe next summer.
Charlie B
3:49
Is there reason for concern with Blackmon's lack of power this year
Jeffrey Todd
3:49
I think his pop and overall output are right near his rate from 2016. And he's maintaining an increase in walk rate. So, no, I wouldn't say so.
3:50
Real concern -- or, really, just the natural thing that will happen -- is that he's not going to match his career year that came at age 31, in terms of offense. And he's going to keep slowing on the field/bases.
3:51
They paid market rate for him a year before FA. Still looks like a high-quality player, but there was never any great value in that contract.
Luis
3:51
Should the Angels focus on improving the rotation or bullpen first?
Jeffrey Todd
3:52
Rotation has been excellent. Depth is def a concern, but they can assess that when the deadline comes. That said, I definitely like the idea of this team pursuing multi-inning type arms. Use them to keep the pressure off the rotation and have 'em on hand if a need arises.
Clayton Richard, Jesse Chavez are a couple of the under the radar guys that could do that.
Mike
3:53
% chance Harper signs w/ Nats before becoming FA?
Jeffrey Todd
3:53
Approaching zero.
3:54
Heyman reported today: no current talks. So when does that start up and take place? He's testing the market.
Not saying he won't re-sign, certainly could.
NL East
3:55
End of the season: who wins the NL East? I will, of course, be taking your prediction as gospel and will be furious if you are incorrect.
Jeffrey Todd
3:55
Nats
Mike
3:55
Which NL East team has the best overall record for the next 5 years?
Jeffrey Todd
3:55
This is a fun one ... I'll give you guys 3 options in a poll
3:56
Best 3-year record?

Nats (17.7% | 41 votes)

Braves (63.2% | 146 votes)

Phillies (15.6% | 36 votes)

Mets (3.5% | 8 votes)

Total Votes: 231
Ok fine, I'll put the Mets in there.
3, 5, whatever. Sorry for screwing that up.
