"Near-term"
Trade season is nigh
3:56
Will Soler be traded this summer or in the offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:56
Don't think so. Makes sense to hold and hope he can keep it up.
Trade season is nigh
3:57
Jared Hughes to the Braves for Christian Pache and Bryce Wilson
Jeffrey Todd
3:57
Since the Braves writers are always talking about Pache, they either really like him or are pumping him up as a trade chip. Either way, no, he's not going to be used to get Jared Hughes just b/c he has a shiny ERA.

If Orioles go full rebuild, is anyone untouchable?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
They might put guys off limits. They will be looking to form a new core. And why even consider deals for Schoop, Gausman, Bundy when they aren't in top form? Picture could look different in 2 months for sure, but I can definitely seem them drawing some lines.

How bad is the NL West?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
Just extremely mediocre.
ATX Halo

If only the best player in the game and the only 2 way player, played for NY or BOS we'd get to hear about them.

Everyone fawns over Ohtani (rightly). Not sure if this is directed at MLBTR, but we have covered him all along, today included.

I believe Eugenio Suarez is the player with the most trade value that is traded this year. Tell me why I am wrong.
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
Because the Reds see him as part of their new core and don't want to trade him.
Goldschmidt
4:03
Not much of a question, but just want to point out that Goldschmidt is struggling this year and still raking the giants at a .500 clip. How?
Jeffrey Todd
4:04
Same basic reason that a good but not great regular season Giants team manage to win 3 WS in 5 years?
Man I'm setting myself up for blowback.
Going to try to grab a couple more quickly here and I have to run ...
4:05
(Re poll results, btw, I think the Braves are way overestimated based on having a few extra wins. Nats and Phils have equal outlooks based on current rosters/prospects, with far more $$$ based on track record. That's my take.)
Brian Dozier
4:05
How much money have I cost myself this year?
Jeffrey Todd
4:06
Well that's not how I'd describe it. He wasn't a FA yet. You go to the market with your whole track record and it is yet to be complete. But if he doesn't improve upon the stat line, sure, it's going to be nothing like what he could make based upon his past three or whatever seasons.
7 walks today for Chatty. Yikes.

Why Yankees do not trade Frazier+Sheffield for a SP?
Jeffrey Todd
4:06
They may well.

What Pittsburgh pirates are doing at trade
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
Still uncertain. I tend to expect they'll end up in a "sell some veterans" posture, much like in '16, but we'll see.
(Like '16 in that they may try to hold the door open to contention, look to add young MLB guys they like, etc.)

With the two early trades thus far with the Rays/Mariners deal and the Jon Jay deal is it signs of things to come and an early market
Jeffrey Todd
4:08
It is possible with a bunch of mediocre trade candidates and some very clear sellers. But I'd expect the major chips to wait unless there's a really odd early run.
Never know year to year. Every market is different. Last year it was late than ever.

Nats need a catcher, today, who’s it gonna be?
Jeffrey Todd
4:09
Wilson!
Zack Kirton
4:09
See everyone loves my braves (check your poll) with the huge amount of salary room this offseason any predictions on a big name or two? Or do we keep it small ball like norm.
Jeffrey Todd
4:10
You are right they have a good amount of capacity to spend next winter, but so do the Nats and Phils. And those clubs have far greater long-term spending capacity.
(Not ready to guess at FA targets.)

Does Yolmer Sanchez have much trade value now?
Jeffrey Todd
4:10
Sort of interesting, but not a ton ... and I still think he'll make more sense for CWS to keep as the guy they plug in wherever needed.
Jeff, wake up.

It's 4 p.m.

Crap 10 after... really do have to go!
Thanks everyone!
