Sorry about that ... back ...
3:27
I think the Braves have to do something. Have to be willing to plunk down some capital. I liked how AA put it to O'Brien: can't lose sight of what's right in front of you.
At the same time, they won't go wild ... unless they are able to land a deal for a controllable asset. Which certainly seems possible.

Can you see the Cubs moving to a 6 man rotation when Darvish comes back or will the Cubs find a way to move forward with both Darvish and Montgomery, while keeping a 5 man rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
I'd think it's more likely Chatwood gets bumped to the pen.

Cardinals look like they should think about planning for 2019.  Who could they sell at the deadline that wouldn't hurt their future?  Norris?  Holland? If he pitches well over next month?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Not yet. But the successive SP injuries stink.

Who do u think needs Machado the most at SS or 3B?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
I think it's less about need than it is about who wants the upgrade the most. He's good enough, and there's enough heavyweight competition, to make it possible to imagine some really surprisingly aggressive teams.
3:31
I mean aggressive more in the sense of looking to upgrade and move things around. I don't know that there's necessarily going to be greater returns on talent with so many sell-side teams.

What type of return could the Padres get for Stammen?
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
I can't really answer the question as framed, because who knows? But I do think Stammen could be one of the most widely pursued guys. He has always been a sturdy dude and has been absolutely lights out this year. Still trying to figure out exactly why he has been able to be so successful, ha.
Mostly he just looks like the best version of his typical self, which is a quality piece.

Who do you think k lands J A Happ? What can the Jays expect in return?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
Similarly, hard to answer this directly. But in my view Happ is the top rental starter and it's not particularly close. Unless you really love Hamels for his postseason experience -- also he's not a pure rental-- I think Happ is the dude. Could fit in quite a few places, as a result, so he ought to be a pretty marketable asset. But we saw what a much more dominant arm in Darvish brought back last year. Very good but not great prospect. It's generally going to be tough to get a real  top piece.

Would Blake Treinen be a realistic piece for the Indians to target at the deadline and what kind of return would it take?
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
I wouldn't put it past the A's to make Treinen available, but also wouldn't count on it so long as they are within range of the Mariners for a WC spot. Certainly not at a very appealing price. It's not like Treinen is just totally out of the blue. He was always filthy but has finally put it together in Oakland.
3:39
This is a situation where "what would it take" basically is answered by .... "well, the potential selling team would be hand-picking assets it wants and only doing the deal if it gets them."

Brad Hand worth two back end top 100 prospects?
Jeffrey Todd

More than that.

Is a Jonathan Schoop trade possible
Jeffrey Todd

Not really, given how he has played.

When do you see the Braves bringing up Austin Riley?
Jeffrey Todd
3:41
It would be very surprising if he plays in the majors this year, honestly. Perhaps a September callup.
3:42
The Ks are real, folks. He's not a surefire hitting prospect.

Will the Braves be in it to win it this year?  Will they make any deals to improve 3rd base, relief pitching and starting?
Jeffrey Todd
3:47
Thing about third base is ... I get that Camargo looks like a legit piece. Granted. But that doesn't mean you can't get a lot better and add new dimensions to your team by adding another option there and making Camargo into a frequently used utility guy.
3:48
Adding some pen pieces is definitely on the agenda, though hard to know if they'll go big on a "Closer." Guessing no unless they are in an amazing spot come the end of July. Rotation will be a function of whether they can get that long-rumored "controllable ace" for a reasonable price or (more likely) whether there's really just a need to be filled. Right now, doesn't seem there'll be an extreme need, but that can change easily.

Is there anything for a poor sad Orioles fan to be excited about for the end of this year/next year?  Prospects I guess?

Is the Rich Hill return a fair template for J.A. Happ? Should the Jays attach a RP like Clippard/Axford or even controlled Tepera in order to get the best possible prospect, like a Frazier or Sheffield?
Jeffrey Todd
3:49
Ehh seems like you may be reaching there. Rich Hill was dealt with Josh Reddick, remember.
3:50
Couldn't Yanks use Frazier as a significant part of a package to go after a better/more controllable pitcher instead?

Ian Desmond seems to be heating up, does that mean Jose Abreu stays put?
Jeffrey Todd

Rockies aren't looking like they'll be in a position to go wild at the deadline.
