Who do you see the Reds trading? Can they get any good value for Harvey?
Jeffrey Todd
3:42
They'll get something for him, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. He might be the only guy moved -- unless some team dangles something interest for Hamilton (most possible, I'd guess, as he'd be a nice postseason asset), Scooter (conceivable but I think they'll hold), or one of the relievers (don't see big enough offers coming).

3:43
Regardless of where he ends up, when does the Machado saga end? Does it go all the way down to the deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
Perhaps not b/c I think with so many teams in, they will want to check down to other possibilities if they won't get Manny. Might force a decision earlier.

What is joey gallo?
Jeffrey Todd
3:44
I think we all know exactly what he is. There's no mystery. Chris Carter redux?
Billy Eppler
3:45
What do I do about Garrett Richards? Do I non-tender him or try to keep him on a low-cost deal?
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
That was the question last fall. He's a FA either way.

58 wins and you guys have no rumors of all the deals I make, I get more updates on twitter than MLBTR, best record for us in 16 years and no PR, appreciate it guys
Jeffrey Todd
3:47
You want us to create rumors of deals that the Mariners already made? Or ... ???
3:48
If you want to read articles about how Semi-Surprising Winning Team X is immune to the pressure or how Shocking Losing Team Y still thinks it can make a comeback, you should look to other sites.
We cover the rumors and the news, and we call things how we see them.

I keep seeing the O's don't want to trade within their division. That makes no sense. Machado is a rental. Why not get what you can to make your division rivals weaker in the future?
Jeffrey Todd
3:49
That is the opposite of what I keep seeing.
3:50
But, historically, there are lots of situations where teams with geographical or divisional rivalries don't often trade with one another. I agree that's silly to apply in some blanket manner, but there are business reasons it can make sense to treat those sorts of rivals differently.

I might be the only sox fan that thinks this, but I'm not willing to lose 10 spots on next years draft pick to make the best team in the majors right now, better. Do you see any contracts that we could move in deals to make some room, without hurting the team?
Jeffrey Todd
3:52
I've told this story before somewhere ... maybe a chat a while back ...
3:53
at the GM meetings a few years back, like the day before the Tigers re-signed VMart, I asked Dombrowski something like: "how do you factor in the lost compensation pick when you are figuring out an offer for a QO free agent like VMart?"
3:54
He looked at me like I was an alien and sort of chuckled and said something to the effect of: "for that kind of player? it doesn't matter at all"
3:55
So, I can't say exactly how he'd feel about going ten picks back, but I suspect his view will be that the real focus now is on getting this team in the best possible position.

When do you see Mike Matheny being let go in St Louis?
Jeffrey Todd
3:56
Seems like more of a right-after-the-season firing candidate.
Alex
3:57
Who are the most available relief pitchers that the Cubs may pursue?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
This is just so hard to guess with respect to any given team. There are always a bunch of relievers available. Somewhat less so this year, but still. I think the best rental guy now is Familia, with Soria and Rodney (also has an option) next up among righties. Rental southpaws: Britton, Duke, Diekman, Blevins (who has been better of late).

Who's one player you think could be traded that nobody is talking about?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
Jose Bautista!
Adam Goldberg

Is there a market for Asdrubal Cabrera? Would anyone want Jeurys Familia?
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
Man you must be one beaten down Mets fan. These are good trade chips! Drubal has hit quite a lot in New York, this year especially, and he's a veteran switch hitter who can play multiple infield spots. Familia is still really good!
Okay can I be honest with you all?
4:02
I really dislike trade analysis that treats negotiations like a horse race. Not to pick on anyone, but this seems just silly to me:

The Los Angeles #Dodgers, Milwaukee #Brewers and New York #Yankees have separated themselves from the pack of teams who have inquired about #Orioles All-Star shortstop Manny Machado, with no clear-cut favorite at the moment.

Likelihood Cashman pulls a switcheroo and acquires a Wheeler or similar instead of deGrom level, just like last year's lousy trade for Jaime Garcia?
Jeffrey Todd
4:04
Not sure getting Wheeler would preclude a more significant SP. But maybe the thought would be, if you can't get a really really good controllable starter, why use up the budget space on a more expensive rental?
As I noted in the post, too, it is kinda interesting to imagine a Sabathia/Wheeler piggyback, though perhaps that's too cute.

Astros, Nationals, Red Sox all seem interested in Ramos. What can the Rays expect to get in return for him?
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
Yes, and he has been very good, but I wonder whether there'll really be a bidding war there. He's not cheap. Those teams all have plausible -- if not perfect -- existing situations. There are a few other possible players out there. Once the cost gets too high, maybe you instead try to get Cervelli.
Of course, Realmuto is the real prize.

This year's Home Run Derby seems to be lacking personality.  I want to see an all retired HR Derby.  Thome, Griffey, Edgar, Frank Thomas... even throw in Conseco and McGwire.  Palmerio is out now because he un-retired.
Jeffrey Todd

I'm in, but only if you correct the unbelievable oversight. Where's Barry Bonds???

Hand and stammen get Mackenzie and Mejia from Indians?
