Cubs in on DeGrom? Do they go after lesser rentals?
Jeffrey Todd
4:10
No way they have prospect assets for that.
And I rarely say that. But deGrom will require a pretty special return.

When the Yankees trade for Machado for marginal low level prospects where does he play?  Whats the point of moving Andujar to the bench, and when they sign Machado and Harper to a billion dollar contracts this offseason where do they play? Maybe baseball can add short center field to the lineup
Jeffrey Todd
4:11
Sir, the Yankees have no "marginal low level prospects." They are all good prospects.
But seriously, I am a bit confused ... if they get Machado for a song, you are still upset about what that'd mean for Andujar?
4:12
Look, Andujar is a MLB quality guy right now, but there are some kinks that could be ironed out and he's no Machado at present (probably not ever, just based on the pure odds of it). He can play at Triple-A and be ready if there's an injury or if he makes sense on the postseason roster. And if they go spend a gazillion dollars for Machado and Harper, they can use Andujar as a big piece for a young SP.
4:13
This is way down the rabbit hole, but ... it all works out just fine I think.

The Sox and Cubs made a deal last summer so why not make it 2 years in a row. Would a Shields & one of their better pen pieces for Chattwood and a prospect make any sense for the cubs? Chattwood is looking like a mistake and cubs are in dire need of a starter who can go deep into games and save that pen for October.
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
Contenders will view Shields as something like a gap-filling back-end starter to help get through some injuries.

Adrian beltre to Boston for devers?

Huh? No

Who's a left handed bat the M's could use to platoon with Ryon Healy?
Jeffrey Todd

Derek Dietrich?
(Could also play OF and it doesn't hurt that h is at least capable of lining up elsewhere in the infield, is why I mention him.)

In case you were wondering ...

MATT HARVEY WILL BE TRADED. how many times do I have to say this? there's no scenario where it makes sense not to trade him
Ha.
(I agree with Trent, just LOLing at his exasperation.)

Do the Reds make more than one trade? And who is most likely to be dealt?

What would Mookie Betts be looking at if he were a free agent in the coming off season? Thanks, Jeff! I appreciate you running these chats.

Why has pretty much every free agent the Twins signed stunk the joint up (maybe with the exception of Duke)?  Reed, Odorizzi and Morrison have been awful this year.
Jeffrey Todd
4:18
Rodney has been good, to be fair.
4:19
And switch Lynn in for Odo.
But yeah, the bargain buys haven't worked out. And neither have some of the anticipated young core keepers (Buxton and Sano).

Any guesstimation on what kind of return the Twins would be looking at for Dozier?
Jeffrey Todd
4:20
Not really, b/c that's all but impossible to state in an accurate manner, but I will say that I think he's a more valuable chip than most might guess. He's a really good all-around player. And hasn't been that bad at the plate. And is heating up. And was a big-time hitter the last two years.
4:21
His salary will be a factor, though.

why is no one mentioning iglesias (DET) as a trade candidate?   excellent glove, .270, a dozen steals....     not bad numbers for a rental, and wouldn't cost much to obtain, right??
Jeffrey Todd
4:21
He was on our original top 50 trade candidates list and will be on the next one (whenever it is finally, FINALLY finished).
4:22
But he's a utility guy for a contender and not cheap, so ... not going to fetch much.

Do you agree that firing a manager like Matheny won't actually give the team more wins, it just makes him a goat?
Jeffrey Todd
4:23
Managerial influence is both vastly overstated and, in some quarters, unfairly dismissd.
*dismissed
4:24
The real issue is that it is all but impossible to assess in any reliable manner. And it's fair to mention, too, that the act of changing the manager can (theoretically) itself have an impact, right? Shaking things up could be good or bad, beyond the personalities.
