You are a sly one, well played.

What could the Royals expect back from Merrifield or Moustakas if they were to trade them?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
See above re O's. Merrifield is more akin to the Orioles pitchers. No reason even to really be putting a price on him so much as letting others come forward with what they'd be willing to do and seeing if it's even worth continuing to talk.
Moose is going to be on the block just like Manny, but with less interest and much lesser offers.
3:37
They're probably as curious as we are what they can get for him. I expect he'll most be seen as a guy that teams fall back to if they can't get better assets. But he'll be a useful addition. Should get a player of at least some note, though dollars will also enter the equation.

A's released Santiago Casilla ... that' s a bit of a surprise.

Could the Braves include someone like Touki Toussaint in a trade for Zach Britton or Michael Givens?
Jeffrey Todd
3:40
Feel like they'd want a guy with some control if they are giving Toussaint ... so maybe more likely Givens or one of the other controllable relief types that could be available (listed a few more above).
David Stearns
3:40
Who am I most likely to land in place of machado.  Is merrifield likely?
Jeffrey Todd
3:42
Well, Whit obviously isn't a SS. So he'd be on the 2B list along with Dozier, Escobar, Asdrubal, maybe Kinsler. There are plenty of solid fill-in guys at short - mentioned Iglesias and Mercer above, also Hechavarria and Galvis.
3:43
Andrus is perhaps the only other guy you might look at as a higher-end option at short that could fit, but he's a tough chip given his remaining contract $ and opt-out situation. Also has struggled since returning from DL.

Who are the Cubs sending back to make this happen?

After losing out on Machado and being rumored for Hand, where do the Phillies go from here? Strictly bullpen help or is there a bat out there for them?
Jeffrey Todd
3:44
Still plenty of options for pen and left side of infield.
Moose could fit though they probably don't love the terrible OBP. Escobar would make sense, esp since he can at least fake it at short.
Jose Abreu
3:45
Am I staying or going?
Jeffrey Todd
3:45
Dropped him from my latest trade ranking. Dip at the plate combines with other preexisting factors to make it feel rather unlikely to me.
What about Bob?
3:45
How does Hand trade impact likely return for Familia?
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
Really doesn't. Very different contract situations. It impacts supply and demand a little bit but not a ton.
Ben

Would if makes sense for the Braves to ask for Stroman whilr taking on Tulo's contract? And to even some money the Jays takes the contract obligation of Kazmir?
Jeffrey Todd
3:48
Not sure how you are figuring the money will net out in the end here, but regardless ... no, the Jays have no reason to sell low on Stroman only to shave costs. They aren't burning off salary.
3:49
And I doubt the Braves have the stomach to eat a huge amount of cash to get a guy that hasn't been himself.
Motor City Man

Should we look at selling high on Castellanos?
Jeffrey Todd
3:50
Yeah, but it's still just hard to know where he's going to fit in defensively. Hasn't shown the ability to play anywhere. And with so few AL teams contending ... who wants a bat-first guy like this bad enough to pay up?
3:51
Oh dang I just saw that Casilla was DFA'ed already. Not surprising he was released, then. I suck!
Mike Rizzo
3:51
More willing to include Robles in trade given Soto's performance?  If so, more likely for a catcher or starting pitcher?
Jeffrey Todd
3:53
In some regards I think that is probably the case, though obviously they aren't going to totally change their valuation on Robles. And if Harper goes, then there's a definite opening still.
The need and the division gap is probably a bigger factor. They need to get better in both of those areas. If they can get Realmuto (whose value is way up) or a controllable impact starter, it's conceivable.

What does Dozier fetch on the market?
Jeffrey Todd
3:55
Don't have a specific guess. But I think he'll be in some demand. Dude was outstanding the past two years, is a quality all-around guy even with only an average bat, and has been coming around some (as he has done in past years).
Kirby
3:55
Could we get one of the Brewers top pitching prospects for Dozier?
Jeffrey Todd
3:56
Of course, he's also seeming limited to playing on the right side of the infield and is a not-super-cheap rental player. So I wouldn't go wild with expectations.

A coworker told me the Mariners could get Jacob deGrom for Robinson Cano because the Mets need a veteran presence after only winning 39 games. It got me thinking: what is the most lopsided/ridiculous trade proposal you've heard (here or otherwise)?
