Maybe that one, honestly.
Grab some pine meat
3:57
What moves do you see the Giants making?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
I'm kinda mystified to be honest. There has been ongoing discussion from the SFG beat about trying to move more salary to open the door to other moves. But then what comes next? I mean, obviously a good bat in the OF would be awfully nice. Could certainly upgrade at third. Pitching staff could clearly be improved.
4:00
I have no idea what exactly they have in mind but it seems like they are trying to pull off rather a difficult feat here of offloading salary and then taking it back on with better players. It can be done, of course, but at what prospect cost?
Jimmy and Millie's Candlestick

Would the Pirates really trade Vazquez?
Jeffrey Todd
4:00
More or less same situation as Hand, so I think it's possible.
Not likely.

What chance to you see the Rangers trading Choo to the Indians for a top pitching prospect?
Jeffrey Todd
4:00
0%
4:01
I mean maybe they somehow work out a deal to send Choo to CLE, but the return will be "taking some of the remaining salary obligation plus a throw-in player."

From what I’ve heard Mejia was working on third base in the minors with the Indians. So if hedges doesn’t work out, they try Mejia at catcher but if not, third base is the slot that the padres are truly lacking a top prospect for no?
Jeffrey Todd
4:03
As I understand it, he has spent some time there but hasn't exactly taken to it in a manner that suggests he's found a home. Defensive location is the main issue that prospect watchers have had with Mejia. Maybe the Pads think he can hang on the hot corner, though, I don't know.
Saw that Preller commented but haven't read yet ... https://www.mlb.com/padres/news/padres-acquire-francisco-mejia-for-bra...

Any news on the Mariners? I know this FO likes to keep things quiet but I haven't hear anything and they will almost certainly make a deal or two before the deadline
Jeffrey Todd
4:05
Total silence. They have to be eyeing significant moves and also preparing for some targeted strikes if that doesn't work. OF/1B bat and SP seem like clear targets to me.

What does a reasonable return for Soria look like?
Jeffrey Todd
4:05
There is no reasonable. There is only "so, given all of that, which group of young players do you want, Kenny & Rick?"
4:06
He's an underrated guy, though, hasn't been talked about much at all. But we had him pretty high up on our recent list.
That's here btw for those that haven't seen it: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/07/top-50-mlb-trade-candidates-2.h...

Is it true Sparky wrestled a bear in center field while Pete and the boys bet on who the winner would be
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
Bold-faced lie.
They all knew Spark would whup the bar, no wagers were staked.

Prediction on Mike Brantley FA contract (years/Total Money)
Jeffrey Todd
4:09
If he stays healthy and productive ... maybe 4/50-something? Hard to see more given age and injury history.

With Cano coming back, is there a possibility of Cruz or Healy getting traded for pitching?
Jeffrey Todd
4:10
Nah. Especially since Cano can't play in the postseason.
BaseballAnalytics

Is Mejia the highest-regarded prospect that gets traded this season?
Jeffrey Todd
4:13
Probably, yeah, in part b/c most of the guys ahead of him are not in orgs with contending MLB rosters.
Not real sure exactly where Mejia is viewed at this point, though ... assume he'll be down the line somewhat from where his highest point in the top-dozen or so.

First team to make the playoffs next- Royals or Marlins, Padres or White Sox
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
White Sox ... have more $ to ramp things up when ready.
Cracker Jack
4:14
Is it possible that the lead up is going to be more exciting than the 24-48 hours before the deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
Well, if there's a ton of action beforehand, then that will leave more time for teams to explore even more significant deals in the final moments.
4:15
Imagine, eg, "The Dodgers have already landed Machado and [impact reliever], why stop now?!?!"
Alvin Davis
4:15
I sick and tired of watching all the current 1b play for the Mariners. What would you do to put a legit bat there?
Jeffrey Todd
4:15
Are you ready for the M's to give up top prospects to bring back Justin Smoak? Let's do this!
Jeff
4:17
Sam Carlson, Evan White, Braden Bishop and Kyle Seager for DeGrom and Cabrera?
Jeffrey Todd

Dude, no
Alexanthopodimus

what % of jeffrey todd is fos?
Jeffrey Todd

Well, I try never to say things in a manner that would suggest I truly know them, so hopefully not much of a percentage.
