I think Im going to do a new list.

Seems Happ is ... happening
Thankfully Steve is helping cover the site!

Cole Hamels top of Cubs list?
Jeffrey Todd
3:40
Maybe their list of pretty easily achievable targets. Can't imagine he's the guy they really want.

Chances on Iglesias getting traded
Jeffrey Todd
3:41
Just a question whether some team decides it wants him on the roster. No reason for the Tigers not to move him.
He could be an August guy, though.
There's just no reason for him not to end up on another roster but there are other, very similar SS out there as well.

Does acquiring Drury make Solarte expendable?
Jeffrey Todd
3:42
He's probably expendable regardless, at least at the right price. This adds to that, sure, but it's easy to imagine both staying. They are losing Donaldson after all. And it doesn't seem likely that Vlad Jr will be on the Opening Day roster, at least.

Is Milwaukee better off going after Duffy/Merrifield or Dozier/Gibson? Throw in Wheeler/Cabrera as well. Part 2: Do you think it's better to package guys together like that when trading for them?
Jeffrey Todd
3:44
Don't really see why it has to be a package arrangement. All very different players and contract situations. Royals group is almost certainly not plausible.
3:45
I don't think there's any general rule on packaging. On occasion it works out.

Source: #WhiteSox sent #Brewers just over $1M as part of Soria trade. Soria owed nearly $3.25M rest of the way, plus a $1M buyout on a $10M mutual option.
So they are basically paying the buyout.

what can the Reds get for Harvey?
Jeffrey Todd
3:49
I really wouldn't expect a ton. My guess would be they try for some lower-level prospects they like, or maybe some upper level relief prospect type?

3:50
Can you see a scenario where the Red Sox make another move or two, say an infielder or a reliever,  despite the horrid minor league system?
Jeffrey Todd
3:51
This idea that has taken hold that the Red Sox can't get anyone b/c the farm isn't great ... it's an odd one. Imagine if they had like 7 really good prospects that magically sat atop their current list. Well, then, their current 1-8 guys would now be 8-15. And they'd still be exactly as valuable. Etc.
3:52
No, the Sox couldn't cobble together prospects needed to land deGrom. Doesn't mean in the least they dont have the pieces to get lots of other useful assets.
John
3:52
What do mets get for Wheeler?
Jeffrey Todd
3:53
In this case, it'll have to be something useful or they'll just keep him. Hard to guess, but they have no reason at all to sell him just for whatever the market will bear -- unless, I suppose, they really don't believe in him.

3:54
What type of prospect package do you think the Angels missed out on when Richards was injured?  He clearly would have been the best rental arm.
Jeffrey Todd
3:55
Well, both Eovaldi and Happ have brought back young MLB guys. So, maybe they'd have been able to achieve a slightly better one, or a pretty intriguing younger prospect. But there were also market alternatives. I do tend to agree that he'd have been the number one guy, but I'm not sure by how wide a margin.

Gausman and Jones to the mariners for Lewis and Gilbert who says no
Jeffrey Todd

Don't think M's can give up their best prospect. Dipoto said as much recently.

Any chance I get work done while this chat is up? Also, Ranger rumors seem to have died down in terms of Beltre, Andrus, Hamels etc etc. Thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
3:58
My purpose is to make you work less.
3:59
The rumors are falling off b/c their list of trade pieces is kind of an odd one. Teams would like Beltre but they want to keep him it seems. Andrus .. who knows what's in his future but he hasn't hit and is either a rental or will cost 3/50 mil. How do you value that? Hamels is super expensive and hasn't been great, but he'll be moved. Otherwise, Diekman and maybe Kela ought to be dealt.

4:00
Do the Phillies add any significant pieces before the trade deadline? And at what position?
Jeffrey Todd
4:00
Absolutely have to b/c they are in position now to take command of the division. I wouldn't take the lack of moves to indicate otherwise. They have enormous flexibility b/c of payroll.
4:01
Where? They could go cheaper up the middle by picking up one of the Iglesias-class shortstops (Jose, Hech, Mercer, or old friend Freddy G).
Then go after a bigger piece at third. Could even wait and have their choice of Beltre and Donaldson in August?
No reason not to improve in the OF also.
