Hasn't really been on his game, so I'm not sure about that. I think Dozier looks like a more appealing option. And there are others. No reason to settle yet.

4:05
How much did James Shields hurt his trade value last night?
Jeffrey Todd
4:06
I really don't think it had far to fall. I know he has been sorta solid, and maybe there's a place for him to fill out a rotation, but he was never going to be pursued hard.

Could the Red Sox make a move for Starlin Castro?
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
Starlin is available for salary relief, so that could work in some regards, but I think it'd be likelier they get a pure rental guy.

4:09
Cards trade Kolten Wong and Austin Gomber to KC for Whit Merrifield. Then move Carpenter to 2 in batting order. Your opinion.
Jeffrey Todd
4:09
Chances are, if you see players as being fairly painless to part with, the team you want to send them to won't be all that excited to get them.
I think they'll have a steep price on Whit.

Think any team looks at Lance Lynn's track record and makes a move based on past success? He can't be this bad. Maybe a change of scenery guy?
Jeffrey Todd
4:10
This bad? Probably not. I mean, everyone predicted regression, but saw him as a back of the rotation dude. Can imagine him being moved, but the baseline isn't a mid-3 ERA.

Julio Teheran for Ian Happ. Who hangs up first?
Jeffrey Todd
4:13
Teheran is the Braves' unanswerable question, they aren't trading him to a contender.
Not for Happ, certainly.
Albert
4:13
With a growing belief that the Nationals may be open to trading Harper, which teams do u think would have the prospects and the motivation to trade for him?
Jeffrey Todd
4:13
The Phillies sure make sense on paper.
Ouch.

Arcia and Burnes to the Angels for Simmons?
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
Not nearly enough. He'd be a great target, but no reason to think Angels are selling him.

4:15
why have the Tigers been so quiet on the trade front... Seems like they have some solid pieces to deal in Fiers, Liriano, Iglesias, Martin & Shane Greene
Jeffrey Todd
4:16
Fiers, Liriano, Iglesias are useful enough rentals who other teams will check down to once they pursue other options. Those first-order deals are happening right now.
Martin has been hurt but otherwise would be pretty useful as a 4th OF.
Greene is one of several talented but not overwhelming controllable relievers. Not clear he'll draw big enough offers to be dealt.
4:17
All said ... it's kind of a boring slate, but I assume they'll end up with some deals.
4:18
I'm unfortunately not going to be able to stick around much longer, even though I've barely made a dent in the queue.
No promises, but I'm thinking of going for  an ad hoc weekend chat.
I'll try to get some more here quick, though.

4:18
Anyway the Mets change their mind and deal DeGrom or Syndergard when he's healthy?
Jeffrey Todd
4:19
Some team could still overwhelm them on deGrom, but if indications are true then they haven't really been taking that seriously. I think he should have been treated as a serious trade possibility ... could secure a massive haul given the state of the rest of the market.

Indians need an Outfielder.  Who do you see them targetting?
Jeffrey Todd
4:19
Loads of options. Priority will be on value, probably.
4:20
Like, too many options to just mention a few ... would be just random guesswork.
Cobb County
4:20
Getting a little impatient as a Braves fan. I understand the desire not to blow up the farm for a short-term gain, but when you're this close, and clearly have pitching needs, you have to do something. Right?
Jeffrey Todd
4:20
Yes, but they don't have to do so before the deadline. So keep patience.

I’m not seriously considering this whole Archer thing right? Trading away valuable pieces for a guy on the wrong side of 30 while being years away from contending?!
Jeffrey Todd
4:21
He signed Hosmer, so I don't dismiss the possibility out of hand.
Wizard
4:21
schwarber for archer straight up?
Jeffrey Todd
4:21
Rays value Archer much higher, I would assume.
Duquette
4:22
why would PIT trade Vasquez w how they are playing lately
Jeffrey Todd
4:22
Because they are the Pirates and could see some opportunity to stay nearly as good while adding long-term value. And they know the winning streak will slow. Just a pet hypothesis of a possibility.
