No way.
I mean, panic wouldn't help them. Nothing they can really do but keep playing anyway.
3:28
But otherwise, yes, they are now in a dogfight for a WC that once seemed all but sewn up.
Fans should panic.

Thoughts on Duvall trade. Reds perspective
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
I don't really get it, entirely. They are clearing the deck in the OF after one of their presumed replacement went down for the year with shoulder surgery. And they sold low on Duvall.
3:30
Maybe they liked some of the guys coming back, but ... there's a reason the Braves were willing to give up 3 members of their 40-man roster. They were mostly filler players who don't seem to have much upside.
Doug
3:30
The Indians aren't done right?  Rightfielder?  Right hand reliever?  Possible infield bat?  McCutchen?
Jeffrey Todd
3:31
They can be patient b/c the division is all but in hand. Could be positioned well for Donaldson.
Marlins Man
3:32
who out of the marlins is most likely to move before september 1st? Castro, right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
Yes, not that he's a great candidate to be traded (lack of demand).
Mets
3:33
Are you a believer of adding to your strengths rather than having a more balanced team? In saying so, would you be apposed the Mets trading for a frontline starter
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
And what assets will they be parting with to make this happen? I mean, sure, strengthen a strength. But I don't know how this comes together.
Clutch
3:33
What should the Giants do with McCutchen? Waivers? QO? nothing and pretend they did the right thing?
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
If they are still in reasonable striking distance in August, they should just hold him and hope for the best. Otherwise, let him go via waiver claim or trade him best you can.
3:35
At season's end, no, there won't be a QO. There's no real way they are going to get anything out of Cutch. Maybe if he is passed through waivers early this month and then goes wild at the plate but they sink out of contention? Long shot.
Andrew
3:35
Ervin Santana waiver deal has to be pretty likely, no? If he regains anything resembling his 2017 form over his next few starts, have to imagine a contender could use him.
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
If he does that, then yeah.
Pete
3:36
Were you surprised that more relievers weren’t traded - Norris, Stammen, Yates, the Angel’s relievers, Rodney?
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
There are always a few strong candidates that don't get moved. Norris - Cards don't want to give up fully. All the others have future control that their teams rightly valued. Same for Reds relievers.
Drew Hutchison
3:39
Do I go to a rebuilding team like the O's where I could maybe start now? Or should I hold out longer and try to make the active roster of a contending team?
Jeffrey Todd
3:39
If he actually has a chance to step onto a MLB roster he has to take it.
Josh
3:40
Any chance Amir Garrett passes through waivers? Would love to see Atlanta make one more trade to get him in the 'pen.
Jeffrey Todd
3:40
No chance at all that a league-minimum cost guy like that is passing through waivers. Have to be realistic about the August deals. Much more limited.
Frustrated
3:41
I’ve seen Slusser (who I like) defend A’s inactivity by saying they were first to act getting Familia and doing so early brought more value. Then says A’s will be looking at deals in August. Doesn’t that contradict the statement about acting early? Would have loved to have gotten any of Eovaldi, Lynn, Happ, Fiers, Gausman. Should I be ticked or just appreciate where we are?
Jeffrey Todd
3:42
Familia move seems like a good one. The fact it came a bit before the deadline doesn't move the needle much for me, but whatever. I think the real key here on the potential rotation targets is that plenty remain. If they couldn't get one of the guys they liked that did get moved at a decent price, they can still settle in August. Why settle up front?
Ross, Harvey, Fiers, Santana, Estrada a few possible targets
Josh Donaldson
3:43
Chances I'm a Brave in August?
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
Think they already spent more cash than was expected.
Jeter
3:43
If Prado keeps hitting, do you think they can find a taker for some of that money?
Jeffrey Todd
3:45
Not sure he's even on much of a hot streak over even a decent stretch, but ... it's not entirely unimaginable he'd end up moved. They'll have to pay down most of the deal. But if Prado looks good this month, he's definitely the type of guy that could fit a lot of rosters. And everyone seems to love him.
Tiger Tom
3:46
Tigers put everybody on waivers to see if anyone's interested?
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
I'd guess Fiers ends up somewhere else at some point. Even then, what if he's claimed and the team wont' give anything and the Tigers say "fine, we want him back"? He might stay. May not be any more deals this year for DET.

Dereck Rodriguez for top 5 NL ROY? Soto probably gets it
Jeffrey Todd
3:48
So ... I was LOL'ing at the idea of Rodriguez as a real ROY candidate last night with Steve. GREAT find, great story. No question. But all his peripherals suggest "hey, look, this guy is actually pretty decent!" not "he may follow his dad into the HOF."
Also, yeah, Soto is way ahead of him.
3:49
Thing I want to clarify there, though: DRod should be judged at the end of the season for what he produced when it comes to an award. I might look at whether a guy was lucky if it's a tiebreaker type scenario, but hey, give credit for actual results.
I just don't think he'll keep sporting a 2.6x ERA or whatever it is.
Rob
3:52
The Padres are going to have big issues with the 40 man roster this offseason because of all the upcoming prospects. How are they going to trim that down so they don't lose a ton in rule 5 draft? Who is most likely to leave?
Jeffrey Todd
3:52
The Rule 5 giveth and the Rule 5 taketh, apparently.
