I have no idea who they like more, but I assume they will explore ways to cash this talent in. Perhaps helps explain the story line about the Pads seeking SPs this summer.

Y'all usually do a good job of what you do and don't report, but really, Rick Ankiel is news. Will you also report that I am considering starting my MLB career at age 47 please?
Jeffrey Todd
3:53
We did a post on Raffy, so ...
3:54
Look, it's an interesting story. People want to talk about it. Guarantee we'd get 20 people complaining if we didn't cover it.
Corey Dickerson
3:55
Since Austin meadows is traded should I be looking for an extension here in the steel city?
Jeffrey Todd
3:56
No, Dickerson is under control for next year and perhaps this means he'll likely be tendered. He'll be paired with a rigty bat, to. I dont see why trading Meadows means they have to go long-term on Dickerson.

Why do the Reds over value their players at trade time and hold on to vets during a rebuild?
Jeffrey Todd
3:58
We'll see what happens with Harvey. I don't understand why they didn't trade Cozart last year, unless it was just a failed gambit to trade him in August. Sometimes you do have to roll the dice and hope you can make it work in August, and it's not always going to work.

Will you ever answer questions about the pathetic state of umpiring in Major League Baseball? Or are you afraid of backlash? It's more apparent than ever before how bad they continue to be, and why not shed some insight?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
I ... I guess I just don't have any insight on this subject. Would be glad to state my feelings if I had strong ones. Not sure where the backlash would come from that would worry me.

Now that Archer is gone, who starts for the Rays? They can't use their bullpen to start every game, can they?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
Is that a dare?

Given your unadmitted bias against the Reds, wouldn't even you acknowledge that young pitchers can take a year or two to develop?  That with a pretty sound seven of the starting 8 and a fairly solid bullpen; they could be competitive if Bailey could look like a 3 (like he has for his last two healthy appearances) and they invested in a Gonzalez type FA and maybe a Harvey.  A few maybes, but we sure all saw maybes in the ATL, PH, and OAK lineup last February!
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
You are suggesting Homer Bailey as a #3 pitcher and accusing me of bias.
4:02
There are some good things going on in Cincinnati. I don't deny it and have no reason to do so. If they turn into a contender and I've been panning them unfairly, won't I just look like a fool?

You were horrible as a "lawyer" just like are as a "writer" now.  What was your record as a lawyer?  I bet you gave Anthony Young a run for the money on consecutive losing decisions.
Jeffrey Todd
4:04
You have a solid grasp on what being a lawyer is in a movie.
Bonus points for the Anthony Young reference, though.
Another victim of the Mets.

Tell me again why we signed Hosmer

I couldn't have answered that when it happened. Didn't get it and still don't.

Will the Pirates be able to move Harrison and/or Mercer should the fizzle out over the next couple weeks?
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
I'll say no and yes, respectively.
Would kinda hurt to do that now, though.

Was Adam Duvall really worth the package the Reds got in return...seems like an overpay for a platoon player?
Jeffrey Todd
4:08
To be clear, having answered a Duvall question above on the other side, I don't think he's some kind of amazing asset, either. Thought it was a solid get for the Braves to improve in a subtle way. But the guy just doesn't get on base enough to be an everyday corner OF.

Who won the trade deadline?
Jeffrey Todd

Same as always
MLBTR
Ha.
Couple more and I have to bolt ...
(I'd like to chat longer, since I sort of said I'd do one over the weekend and didn't, but I have a commitment!)
Oscar Mercado
4:10
Mercado was traded so the Padres wouldn't take me in the Rule 5, right? Why is the Cards brass getting so much s*** for this?
Jeffrey Todd
4:10
He's already on the 40-man.

Dear Jeff, come up with a scenario where Dex gets moved this month. Any scenario. Any one at all :)
Jeffrey Todd
4:11
Sure, they decide to eat as much cash as it takes to move him. There'd be interest at the right price.

Soto 330 AB, 13 HR, 36 RBI, 1.7 WAR while Acuna in 122 fewer AB's 208, 11 HR, 27 RBI, 1.3 WAR - just wish Ronald hadn't missed those 6 weeks.
Jeffrey Todd

Acuna also warrants mention, I agree. Soto has been panned for his D by metrics, but from what I've seen I can't say I disagree.
