Hey everyone! Let's chat about some baseball.
Leave some questions and we'll get started momentarily.
Jonathan
3:04
Do you think the Phillies will make it into the playoffs
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
I do.
Just a random person
3:04
Does the rockies buyout parra's option for next year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
Yeah he'll almost certainly be kicked back into free agency.
Harry the K
3:05
Who wins the NL east and why?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
Got the Phils. Big spread over Nats and I think they're a bit better than the Braves. Could still be any of the 3 though.
Marcus
3:05
Could too few walks hold Javier Baez back from MVP consideration if it's close?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
No, I don't think so, except insofar as it limits his ability to produce OBP. I haven't exhaustively evaluated the field or anything, but I think players should be judged by the actual output over the year. Factoring in good fortune or fine analytical points may make sense from time to time on the margins -- and certainly matters in assessing true talent for projecting a player going forward -- but I think rewards should be for results in the main.

Rays have $8M in guaranteed money on the books for next year. Think they're going to do anything big this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
I think they will be willing to add salary, for sure, but it's obviously not their style to make their most substantial acquisitions via FA. Plenty of flexibility, though, to be targeted and/or seek value.
Seattle Pilots
3:08
Are there any plausible August trade targets that the M's can target? Are they just waiting for Cano and praying? Is there a point at which they should turn around and sell?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Still plenty of time for the standings to shift around, so I'd really be guessing. But I think to an extent, yes, they are viewing Cano as a substantial late addition. There is also a point where they'd flip over and sell to an extent, but the roster isn't exactly full of obvious rental pieces and I think they are pretty committed to trying unless all hope seems lost.
Even if they're 4 games back at the end of the month, that's hardly insurmountable.

How much does a ped suspension hurt a prospect's value?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Not sure there's any general rule. In some circumstances it could be seen as a non-factor or as something more significant.
Love it
3:10
The Marlins seem to be doing an awful overall job. They have the same payroll as the Phillies with far less promise...
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Can't just look at their immediate salary. They were trying to win and got into some big contracts that aren't working out and aren't movable. Phils are going in the other direction, so it's really not a fair comparison right now. Marlins have unearthed some interesting, under the radar players this year, to their credit.
Bobo Dinky
3:12
Is Tim going to cut one of you with this new "writing" position?  Why can't you and Steve work Saturdays?  You don't really have that much going on, do you?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Yeah I just sit around on the internet all day anyway, nothing else going on.
Actually I'm working this Saturday ... see you then!
Todd Jeffrey
3:12
Best player with 2 first names??
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
I think we've done this before. Allen Craig just jumped in my head but I'm sure there are better.
Will Clark ...
I'll take suggestions.
Braves
3:13
Will we see Touki Tossaint in the rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Seems he will be headed for the majors in some capacity at some point late this year.
Teffrey Jodd
3:14
When's the next competitive Orioles team?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Not really foreseeable at this point.
Billy Heywood
3:14
Do you think Elvis will opt out?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
I'll guess no.
Bobby Evans
3:15
What do I do? I have a .500 team and the 3rd highest payroll in MLB.
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
If totally buried at the end of the month, shave what players you can to save some cash and maybe get a little back in return. Otherwise ... just have to keep trying to find value on the market and be very judicious in any big new contracts.
Love these chats!
3:17
Is the Matt Harvey-Reds affair coming to a close?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
Thanks, I enjoy them too!
It only takes one phone call (or waiver claim). Unless they really just want the innings or really want to try to draw him back next year, no reason they wouldn't basically take what they can get.
Jimdawg
3:18
whats up with Sanchez leaving the came early?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Just part of the Nats' new strategy of peppering opposing starters with comebackers.
Ryder
3:18
Where do you think Jerry Blevins will land? Could he yield a descent return?
