Don't know where -- most contenders could say "sure, let's get another lefty" -- but he's mostly going to bring cost relief I'd expect.

When a team trades international spending money, no actual cash changes hands, right? One team has just given away their right to spend the money, right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Correct. I try to refer to it as something like "international bonus pool availability" though sometimes admittedly use the shorthand.
Cruising in Third

How's the MLBTR fantasy team doing this year?
Jeffrey Todd

Defunct

How can Robinson Cano receive credit for Serving his PED Suspension while he has been on the Disabled List?  Shouldn’t his Suspension start AFTER he comes off the DL?  I don’t see any punishment here.
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
That's just how it's written, based upon negotiations between league and union. There are other rules for other kinds of suspensions.

Markakis is either 1st or 2nd in the NL batting avg, right now and slugging .100 better than his past 5 seasons.  What does this mean for his impending free agency.  In the offseason he was discussed as a salary dump...does ATL sign him? What will the market look like for him?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Has to be taken with a grain of salt, since the recent track record is nothing like this. But he's still rolling and it will obviously help him quite a bit. Still not sure he gets more than two years on the open market at his age.

Darkhorse teams that will be in on Harper next offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
Haven't thought about specific landing spots for Harper or Machado, but it seemingly came out of nowhere when the M's landed Cano. Given their youth and established ceilings, basically any team would want to add them, even if it means jettisoning another player. Certainly, $ will be a huge factor, but I wouldn't rule out very many teams entirely.
3:25
That's all the more true, wrt Harper, if he cools back off or something. If he ends big, price tag presumably goes up, and that may price out more orgs.

Donaldson an Indian before end of August?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Seems the likeliest landing spot, but his situation remains unclear while he's hurt.
3:26
Indians are a good fit on paper and the waiver order favors them: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/08/how-might-things-play-out-for-j...
Hank Aaron
3:26
I’m the best player with 2 First names.
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
That'll do.
Brian
3:26
George Herman Ruth
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
Ruth is also a common female first name. Everybody has two first names. I'm not special anymore.
I just like that I listed Allen Craig first. Shows how deep my head is in the hot stove sand ... oh, Allen Craig is a player with an interesting transactional history!
Two First
3:28
George Brett takes it for me.
Two first names 3.
3:28
Last one-Frank Thomas.
Cindy
3:29
When you answered the question about Matt Harvey you should have pointed out it was two first names
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Well done, yes.
KEVIN CASH

When's the next competitive/playoff Rays team? Is 2019 a possibility?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Definitely think they will enter '19 with designs on contending. Could be a really interesting team ... who knows what they'll do to fill out a staff.
Nick

Brighter MLB future: Acuna or Soto? Why?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
For me, I would put money on Soto, just b/c of his better early showing and ludicrous plate discipline. But that's not a scouting opinion.
Yadier Molina
3:31
Is there any possibility of a player-manager coming back? I think I was probably the closest possibility before they promoted Shildt
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
If anybody, yeah, Yadi would make a lot of sense. Or maybe it'd be a bench slugger type who can still hit a ton but mostly comes in for one AB every game.
3:33
I tend to doubt it'll happen, esp since today's skippers are expected to spend so much time managing the media.
The Brian Jonestown
3:34
The Giants are the 2012 Phillies
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
In some regards, perhaps, but they also arguably have better present MLB players (in terms of near-term outlook/contract) than did that team.
3:35
I say that without examining in detail, but MadBum, Crawford, Buster, Belt are all still really good players.
Jason
3:36
Joe Mauer...my friend named his son Mauer...so technically...

Old Man
3:36
How old are you in that you thought of Allen Craig before Hank Aaron or Babe Ruth?  You didn't even catch that Anthony Young (losing streak) reference last week until you looked it up.  You kids and your short-term memories (like Red Sox fans who didn't exist before 2004).
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
Whoa whoa whoa ... I didn't look up any Anthony Young references. I know Anthony Young.
Jim Johnson
3:37
Im quietly having a good year in the pen, who trades for me in the next month?
