So ... I can imagine it being something that even some top players try to add to their game. Harper has been going oppo more of late, for instance. But the shift itself is going to be deployed -- when the numbers support it -- until the league outlaws it. I'm not certain that's the right approach, but they ought to study it along with other methods for making sure there's a sufficient number of balls in play and runners on base to make the game fun to watchn.

Syndergaard to White Sox for Madrigal, Cease, and Zack Collins who says no?

I wonder if there's still a floppy disk with my gravestone on it floating around out there somewhere.
Loved that game.

Love the Chats! Will the Braves have a pretty good amount of money this offseason, enough to make a play for Harper or Machado for example? or will they be out of the Braves price range?
Jeffrey Todd
4:06
In theory they could afford one of those guys, but I don't think they'll view that as a wise investment given where prices could head.
That Girl

You wrote an article today about Billy Hamilton.  Why would the Reds hold on to someone who is such a bad hitter.  I mean, do you think his defense is so fantastic that they keep him around even when he can’t hit?  Do you think offense is more important than defense or doesn’t it matter?
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
He has an extreme skillset. So do some really good hitters that are terrible fielders/baserunners. That isn't great for a regular player, but for a reserve it isn't necessarily a bad thing -- can be good, b/c it gives a manager specialist options to suit different situations.
Met Hipolito

I saw Hipolito Pichardo about to get on the bus after a minor-league game.

I said, "Hipolito, what are you doing here?"

He pointed to his left arm and said, "Rehab.  Rehab."

Secret Santa

Which MLBTR staff member got the best and worst Secret Santa gifts last year?  I can just tell that Steve Adams probably gifted somebody a stupid scarf or something like that.  His writing style just screams "scarf giver", would you agree?

Want to know the worst part?
It was acrylic.

Is McCutchen the only piece you can really see getting traded during august?  if not, is it because the giants think they still have an actual chance

Dyson and Holland, perhaps

Odds of Freddy Galvis signing a one-year extension?
Jeffrey Todd
4:12
He is the type of guy that has signed that kind of deal in the past. Maybe if the Pads really like him and don't have to promise him an everyday role.
It is going to be a tough market for glove-first SS, also
Pujols Greatness
4:13
I know that Pujols has slowed down, but is it possible his career was better than what Mike Trout's will be.
Jeffrey Todd
4:13
Because Pujols was legitimately great and Trout could still get seriously injured or something, yes, that is possible.
Buddy
4:14
Obviously Mike Trout is the best player in the game, but do you think Ramirez or Betts can wrestle the MVP award away from him this year?
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
If voters think it's close as to who had the best year, I'm sure plenty will lean toward a winning team. Esp if, say, the Red Sox end with a historic win total.

Not denigrating the talent there, but I am pretty bullish on Syndergaard.

Whats your Favorite Park you have visited, and have you visited Fenway Park The Mecca for Baseball fans
Jeffrey Todd

I have, and it is my favorite. Easy choice. Wrigley and Dodgers Stadium come in next, b/c I love old ballparks.
Newer parks ... Camden.
