What are realistic options on the free agent SS market for us gonna be?
Jeffrey Todd
4:13
Andrus is the best possible option though I am guessing he stays in his contract. There are plenty of gap filler or platoon partners. A's do seem to like Semien, and will need to address 2B (even if likely from within), so they could look to add some flexible infield depth rather than just trying to get a new SS.
4:14
I mean, I'm excluding Manny as an Oakland possibility there. Would be utterly without precedent for them to go after him when he's going to command multiple hundreds of millions.

Will Matt Holliday be the x-factor I'm looking for down the stretch?
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
I don't know, but he seems to be the one they've chosen to roll the dice on.

Will the Giants ever sell?  Does Brandon Belt clear waivers?
Jeffrey Todd
4:15
I don't think Belt gets moved this summer. I'd bet some other teams would be happy to take over his contract. Was actually thinking to myself whether the Phillies could somehow match up in the winter to come ... he seems like their kind of hitter.

Have we seen the last of Dexter Fowler in a Cardinal uniform?  Seems like all parties need to find a way to find a trade this offseason
Jeffrey Todd

Another big contract. I actually think there could be a lot of big contract swapping this winter. With all those teams resetting their luxury rate, there may be some belt loosening. I think some teams would be glad to gamble some $ on Dex, though obviously the Cards will need to eat a lot of it or take on another bad contract in return.

Do the Brewers pick up Mooses option?
Jeffrey Todd
4:19
It's a mutual option. He's almost certainly going back to the market.

It appears as if Nationals are willing to part with pieces of the current 1.0 version of this team.  Are they gearing up in the off-season for 2.0 or will we see other valuable parts of this team gone before 2019?  Do you believe Harper is in the mix next season?
Jeffrey Todd
4:20
They still have tons of talent and will have money to spend. Every reason to believe they'll be back in the thick of things next year, though certainly the level of competition in the division isn't easing up.

Will the slow, left handed power hitter go the way of the long man, third string catcher, good field no hit infielder and become a rarity in the bigs?
Jeffrey Todd
4:21
Not sure that the lefty power bat is much more scarce than those other specialty players. We've even seen some teams carry three catchers in recent seasons. Long men and utility guys are pretty common still.
4:22
I mean, I guess there aren't many teams that just carry true mop-up relievers, but there are a lot of former starters working from the pen that are on call when multiple frames are needed.

The best player in baseball is...

MIKE TROUT
4:24
This is not hard, people. Every year, there's like one or two other guys that play as good or nearly as good as Trout. But he is always there, every season.
(Sorry for yelling. I get very defensive about Mike Trout.)
Couple more and I have to bolt ...

we obvious overpaid for archer but can he help us win in the near future
Jeffrey Todd
4:27
Putting aside the price paid, we should not issue final judgment after four starts -- on any of the starters that were traded. Hamels is not a sub-1.00 ERA pitcher, right?
4:28
Not accusing you of doing that. It's just ... I see outlandish stuff all the time leaping to conclusions after a short period of time. Shockingly, the people that are lauding this guy or panning that guy never acknowledge it when things change over a longer period of time.

Any takers for Iggy? Some of the best SS defence ever and a serviceable bat
Jeffrey Todd
4:31
Still think he lands somewhere. But the fact he cleared waivers tells you what you need to know about the anticipated return.

If I 'm braves management (but I'm obviously not) I  offer Nick markakis  another contract maybe 2 for 25 with an option for a 3rd everyday player and professional hitter. A definite asset to the team. Braves are good and getting better. What day you ? Thanks.
Jeffrey Todd
4:34
That's possible. I think you're in reasonable range on the money. People suggesting four years or whopping AAVs are way off, in my view. I do think, though, that the Braves will at least want to check into bigger bats before they do something like that. And he'd probably have a ready made platoon mate if retained ... a RHH that can also see time in center would make sense. (That could be Duvall if they don't give up on him.)
Gotta run folks!
4:35
Thanks as always. Will be fun to see whether we get a lot of action over the next week ... I think there will be a few notable deals, perhaps even one or two just out of nowhere blockbusters with unexpected players.
