Art of the deal
4:04
Does Choo, Desheilds to AZ for Greinke make sense for Rangers?
Jeffrey Todd
4:04
Sure but I don't see it making sense for the Diamondbacks.
Good opportunity to try another poll though ...
4:05
How much would Greinke get in FA?

3/90-ish (about his current contract) (15.1% | 60 votes)

3/75-ish (a bit less than he's owed) (57% | 227 votes)

significantly less than he's owed in years and/or dollars (27.9% | 111 votes)

Total Votes: 398
(if he was on the market this winter that is)

Robbie Ray=Future Angel
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
Trade is another angle for the angels, for sure ... Ray you might get for a bit of a discount b/c he didn't have a great year. Godley not dissimilarly. Obviously we know Sonny Gray is on the market. Etc. But they will want to be careful not to give away the heard-earned prospect capital too freely.
Fake Dayton
4:08
Real Dayton sure sounds delusional, doesn't he?  He keeps talking about how the Royals are done rebuilding (and, by extension, ready to contend).  How many years does he set this franchise back with his decision making?
Jeffrey Todd
4:09
I haven't read his comments in full, to be fair. But the gist I was getting was strange. Now, what you say for public consumption isn't necessarily entirely what you feel. And they have had at least some positive developments. And I guess you can't dismiss the fact that he has constructed a WS winner and knows what it looks like. BUT it still looks a ways off from the outside.
4:10
And also I am not sure why he has made redeeming Luke Heimlich his personal crusade. Or, I guess, if he really does fully believe in him then he should stop gabbing about it as a trial balloon and make a deal.
AJ
4:11
Does Andrew Miller make sense for the Rays on a one year deal?
Jeffrey Todd
4:12
He makes sense for every team in baseball on a one-year deal. Who knows if he can get his edge back, but everyone should be interested in finding that out with him in their uniform.
4:13
There is a possible edge for the Florida teams for sure ... he's from there and made clear last time he was a FA that he considered that sort of thing.
Matt
4:14
What is your opinion of Josh Donaldson's free agency?
Jeffrey Todd
4:15
I am beginning to wonder if some team won't just say screw it and stake something reasonably big on his upside. Maybe something like the Arrieta deal but at a lower price tag? I can see him going for that kind of arrangement, sort of betting on himself but also picking a team that was willing to commit to him rather than just taking a pillow deal elsewhere.

Most regretted contract hameed out this offseason? My bet is keuchel
Jeffrey Todd

Hardest guy to value, with big risk, is probably Kershaw.
Martin Maldonado
4:17
What am I worth on the open market?
Jeffrey Todd
4:17
Like 2/12-15?
4:18
I guess he could get a longer deal from a team that really thinks he'll be a high-quality #2 for a while. But I have a hard time seeing a significant AAV.

If Oh does infact return to Korea, should the rockies go to the trade market?
Jeffrey Todd
4:21
They probably need relief help regardless. That would really suck for them, though. He worked out and the price is right.

Who is your surprise choice for Mets GM?

Cards offseasons moves: Britton - 3/45. Donaldson 2/45. Harper - 6/225 opt out after 3. Do these moves beat Cubs brewers?
Jeffrey Todd
4:23
I think that you might be in range on JD but don't see those values for the other guys. Britton just has not returned to his prior form so that seems wildly expensive to me. And Bryce is almost certainly going for a much larger, longer deal than that.

4:24
Is there even a chance the Phillies could trade Cesar Hernandez for anything of value with such a bloated 2Bman FA market ?
Jeffrey Todd
4:25
He doesn't feel like a guy who'd be prioritized on a market that, like you rightly point out, is loaded with options.

Does 5/100 get Eovaldi on the Angels?
Jeffrey Todd
4:25
I'LL TAKE IT WHERE DO I SIGN
4:26
That is way too much, I think, though I do expect Eovaldi to get a significant contract.
4:27
Couple more questions and I have to get on outta here ... my daughter has a pivotal soccer match this evening and she needs me to be on the sidelines screaming at her to go harder.

4:27
Do you see the Twins in on Corbin? Or will he end up costing too much?
Jeffrey Todd
4:28
Think that market will run away before they get involved.

I just started typing the words “I got” and my phone’s suggestions for the next word we’re “to,” “for,” and “DFAd.” This is not a joke. It’s just happened that many times.
