Say you talk to Arenado about an extension and he says no, he wants to test free agency. What does Jeff Todd, newly minted GM of the Rockies, do? Hold Arenado and reevaluate at the deadline? Trade him now for a haul and sign a third baseman who won't be as good (because come on) but will allow you to reallocate some money?

Touched a nerve when I wrote all MLBTR "writers" are merely glorified web re/searchers, didn't I?  Any one of us can scour Twitter or sports blogs to see what Nick Cafardo or Jon Heyman report or to find other "rumors".  None of you actually have inside sources or insights of your own.  You're just reporting what others already reported.

That's not entirely inaccurate. Of course, you are welcome to spend 40 hours of your week doing that, as Steve and I both do and Tim did before. Also, we do have connections and use them not infrequently.
