That said, they have quite a few needs to address. All kinds of pitching, especially, along with catcher and building out the depth in both the IF/OF.

Joe Panik for Michael Taylor make any sense?
Jeffrey Todd
4:17
Not a bad thought.
Matt
4:18
Realistically how could the Cardinals part ways with Fowler?
Jeffrey Todd
4:19
Salary swap of some kind. I have suggested before that I think there are some interesting scenarios out there. A guy like Fowler, plenty of teams would love to take a chance on. There are others in that general boat who are also owed more than they would be worth on the open market.
4:20
Couple more and I have to get on outta here ...

Bauer to Toronto for Biggio - Alford - Reid Foley - Zeuch?  who says no? Is this enough return for Bauer?
Jeffrey Todd
4:20
I don't see the Indians dealing a player like that for prospects. And I don't see the Jays dealing prospects for a short-term veteran.
BUT
4:22
I have wondered if the Indians will entertain offers on their SPs. Many teams will be dismayed at the prices for the best FAs. The trade market is sort of barren of proven arms. Greinke is likely the best but he's already on a big contract.
Quality young OF would have to be of interest to CLE, right? Maybe they could find a way to do this that wouldn't hurt too badly in the near term and improve the long-term outlook.

Will a team offer up an offer I can't refuse on Merrifield?  He is a fit for every contender in some form or fashion and still pre are
Jeffrey Todd
4:24
Yeah, but the Royals ... seem to think they are already turning the corner. Think they will be inclined to hold unless blown away.

May I propose a moratorium on questions re NYY trading Stanton
Jeffrey Todd
4:25
Granted, but you are out of order and are hereby disbarred.
Cards fan!
4:26
What do you think Cards can get for Jose Martinez?
Jeffrey Todd
4:28
Not much, honestly. But I really could see the M's wanting him. And those teams lined up on Gonzales/O'Neill. And there are some interesting salary swapping possibilities. Cards might want Colome or even Dee. M's might like Gyorko or Wong or even Dex.
Now I'm way afield of Jose Martinez, though, ha.

Harper/Machado at longer than 10-11 yrs?!? Insane.
Jeffrey Todd
4:29
I don't think so. Spread the AAV for lux tax purposes, get some cheap freebie years on the back end?
Nathan Eovaldi
4:29
Did I make enough of an impression to get a 4 year deal?
Jeffrey Todd
4:30
I think it's either 3 or 4. Might get some beefier AAVs on the lower end, obv. We have seen injury question mark starters get to 4, such as McCarthy. He's also young.
Justin Smoak
4:30
Justin Smoak to Colorado for Jeff Hoffman -- who says no?
Jeffrey Todd
4:31
Not sure but Smoak would be a nice target for the Rox b/c I don't think they have a lot of budget space.

Shouldn’t a player lose his NTC once he’s waived it? It seems unfair that the Yankees are stuck with Stanton’s contract for the next decade.
Jeffrey Todd
4:32
It's all part of the contract originally agreed to, that the Yankees then agreed to take over. They could have asked him to give it up. They bargained for this.
Tim

I see an overwhelming trend, you, Steve, Baseball America, now Baseball Digest, Ohtani the AL RoY. Yankees fans will disagree.
Jeffrey Todd

Clearly, I started it.

How could you forget the Astros? Your disdain for them is becoming more apparent.

The amount of cubs fans who want to sign Lemahieu over Harrison, Mercer, Hechevarria, Iglesias, galvis etc. seems crazy. The other guys play similar/better defense and can be had for much cheaper, leaving room for bullpen/backup catcher additions. Am I undervaluing Lemahieu?
Jeffrey Todd
4:33
I don't know about Cubs fans preferences, but generally, I don't think DJLM is a huge asset. I do think he'll out-earn all those other guys rather handily, but I don't think he's sparking a bidding war.

Red Sox offer Betts 11 years at $350 mill. Does he accept?
Jeffrey Todd
4:35
Well, he's way better than Stanton, and that was what Stanton got. So I guess he'd have a case to hold out for more. And he has said he isn't that interested in an extension, so perhaps he'd demand it. OTOH, that's a lot of money.

any chance SFG can move Melancon and Longoria to open up money and a position for Machado?
Jeffrey Todd
4:37
I just don't know where they'd send it, really. But I wouldn't rule out creativity, as stated. Could this be where Dexter goes? Can imagine some things coming together.
