DJ LeMahieu

Hey Jeff - I feel like I’m a underrated FA and could help a lot of teams. Where am I headed?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
Perhaps. But think about it from the perspective of the teams looking at 2B. Does anyone really stand out? Is DJLM that much better than, say, Starlin Castro (who the Marlins would surely love to dump). Do you go hard for Lowrie (great recent track record but 35). There are soooooo many possibilities that the best option, unless you really love one guy in particular, is to wait for a value proposition to arise.
3:31
Cubs have named Tommy Hottovy as pitching coach.
I have nothing further to add on that ha

Who could be a willing trade partner for Seattle on Kyle Seager?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
The fact that the option in his contract converts to a player option upon a trade is a big issue. That's a huge additional cost. Honestly it's probably more powerful than a straight no-trade clause, except in the case that he was performing really well, so it's sort of bizarre that the club agreed to it when most deals have like 1-2 mil assignment bonuses, if anything.
3:33
Think they may have to hold and wait.

Should I sign Machado?  Or is he the 2nd coming of Hamilton?
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
There are no parallels between those two players at all, other than that they are highly sought-after FAs.
I guess some history of knee troubles, but Manny's haven't been to the extent of Hamilton's and he's far younger (and also no known history of substance abuse, etc).

How do the Cubs respond to the Goldschmidt deal
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
They don't. They had every necessary incentive to improve the roster to max out regular season wins regardless.

Happ to Oakland makes too much sense, doesn't it? I feel like people aren't giving the A's enough credit with regards to being a legitimate fit for Happ...
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
You could say the same of some of the remaining teams with far more money to spend. I know the A's have an obvious need in the rotation but they also don't seem to be loaded with free cash and need multiple pieces.

Haven’t heard much in regards to Andrew Miller and Zack Briton.....what’s the word on the street regarding these two
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
Relief market is dead quiet right now. Everyone waiting for someone to blink, perhaps. I wonder whether there'll be a bustle at the winter meetings though.

What are the chances AJ Pollock goes to the Rockies?
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
Not sure they will want to move Blackmon off of CF just yet or make that kind of commitment to an OF. But they do need a righty bat out there.
3:39
Hang on one second folks ... brb

Okay I'm back

i really want Realmuto
Jeffrey Todd
3:41
You should. With the rest of the division falling back, the Rox are in a good spot to push to challenge the Dodgers. Won't be easy, and there's no promise of a WC as a consolation prize, but it's probably a clearer path than usual in that division.

Any hope for a Giants fan?
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
I'd feel pretty good about having Zaidi in charge with the full support of ownership to act as he sees fit and utilize still-massive spending power. Never fun to be in less than a competitive stance but it's as good a situation as could be hoped for otherwise.
I mean, obv the contracts and talent pipeline aren't optimal. Given the tough spot, the other background factors are promising.

Keuchel over under 5yr/$120 mil?
Jeffrey Todd
3:44
I'm way under on that.

Has Mike Rizzo finished his Christmas shopping, or does he have a few gifts left for Nats fans?
Jeffrey Todd
3:44
More to come, I think. Could still add another significant arm to either rotation or staff, and need depth pieces. Plus the Harper wild card and the ever-present possibility of a surprise Rizzo swap.
3:45
Like, would the Nats be in on Kluber or Bauer? don't see why not.
3:46
BTW the Indians man ... that Carrasco deal is excellent for them. He's not youthful but he's an outstanding pitcher and getting more years at 12 mil a piece is fantastic.
Morrow cleanup procedure ... likely not ready to start season.

Yanks Turn
3:48
So now that nathan eovaldi has signed with the Red Sox, time for the Yanks to coutner with Happ or other?
Jeffrey Todd
3:48
Sure but I wouldn't presume they aren't in on the trade market. Kluber or Bauer would make lots of sense.

Is Philly going to get shut out on the top free agents again? It happened last year!
Jeffrey Todd
3:48
Did it really? Hmm
3:49
Also, no, they won't get shut out again like they did last year when they signed Arrieta, Santana, Hunter and Neshek.

Which player(s) that no one is talking about right now gets traded this offseason? In other words, could you foresee a surprising blockbuster trade? If not, is there a potential notable trade being talked about that you think is more likely than the rest?
Jeffrey Todd
3:52
Nobody stands out, b/c I guess they'd be on the radar otherwise, but perhaps there's an outside chance of something involving a player like Starling Marte who'd be in very high demand and could draw a compelling offer. NOT saying that will happen and I have no inside info on it whatsoever.
