Any realistic takers for Belt?  Houston is home for him and could use a LH bat.
Jeffrey Todd
3:40
That could be a good match, sure. Rays. Rockies if everyone can get over the whole division rival thing.
I think Giants will be eating money, though. Or perhaps taking on another significant contract in return.

Where does the death star go next
Jeffrey Todd
3:41
TJ Maxx or Marshalls, whichever is closest
3:42
Just kidding ... it's far from clear the Yanks will just nickel and dime.
And for the record, on those rare occasions when I buy new things, I always look in the discount bins!

Probably sick of getting this question but when will we find out which big name the White Sox are signing?
Jeffrey Todd
3:45
Not sure I'd totally presume they will get one ... I do certainly see paths to a major deal. But it's not certain. Let's suppose they miss on Bryce and Manny, which is likely. (Not saying they can't get them, but I think you have to take the field if you're wagering.) Do they check down to Grandal? Pollock? What if it means winning a bidding war, and you've now added one quality but not game-changing piece on a longer deal. Not totally sure that makes sense.

Do you think Brantley would be an upgrade from Markakis? Nick won gold glove and silver slugger.
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
If the Braves could guarantee Markakis would have that same level of production, then sure, take him back. There isn't much reason to think he'll return to the first half power boost, though. Brantley would be an upgrade.

Am I even one of the 10 best position players in MLB?
Jeffrey Todd
3:47
No, not quite. Still has nearly unmatched ceiling, though.
Tyson
3:49
Who got the better end of the deal, Tanner for Tanner?
Jeffrey Todd
3:51
Not really that kind of a deal. The Nats obviously decided they were going in a different direction and would just get what they could from Roark. And the Reds saw a chance to get a guy they'd have probably paid a bit more for in FA. Lotto ticket arm in return seems fair for the Nats and easy to stomach for the Reds.

Why would the Padres trade prospects for Syndergaard? I understand why A team would, just not THIS team
Jeffrey Todd
3:53
Well they aren't all going to reach the majors and pan out. Pads surely have favorites that may not align with the broader market perception. And Thor has 3 years of control.
Andrew
3:55
Any smoke to this 3 team realmuto/syndegaard deal in you opinion?  What would the Padres have to move on their end to get it done?
Jeffrey Todd
3:56
Eh ... the Mets are exploring all scenarios it seems. This one felt plausible from the start if they are really willing to give up Thor. But ... who knows, really? It makes some degree of sense on paper.

Given your statement that Cubs don't have the budget to make any moves, do you see any chance they engage a team like the Phillies? Wouldn't Hamels would intrigue them & provide a path for each team to improve in the end
Jeffrey Todd
3:58
I'm not saying that, to be clear. They are putting that word out through the media.
And no, Hamels doesn't seem to be a trade candidate after all the machinations to keep him.

What's your favorite signing so far? Favorite trade?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
Nats-Rosenthal, Phillies-Segura
4:00
Really like Donaldson for the Braves as well ... yay NL East
Big Mig Sano
4:00
Do I bounce back this year or even start anywhere for the Twins?
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
Falvey had words of promise and hope last night. Says Sano is working hard, etc. He'll definitely get the chance.
Will
4:01
What do you make of Reds and Dodgers deal? Seems very complicated
Jeffrey Todd
4:02
Frankly it's impossible to analyze since it's not even a fully formed trade concept ... seems more like a variety of scenarios being considered.

Any truth to the rumor that the cardinals, Phillies, and New York and in a bidding war for Britton and that he should sign soon?
Jeffrey Todd
4:04
Don't know but we've now seen two significant relievers go off the board and Britton/Miller are in the rumor mill. Certainly wouldn't be surprising to see bullpen deals begin to flow.
Floki

Who is on second for Brewers? Seems like 30 candidates. Stearns may find the 31st.
Jeffrey Todd
4:06
As I've been saying, there are just so many options at that position ... only Schoop is off the market (Twins), so nothing has really changed the picture yet. Everyone waiting for someone to blink. Seems like LeMahieu is drawing the most interest right now, so could be he signs and that kicks things off.
4:07
(LeMahieu drawing the most interest generally, not necessarily from MIL ... not sure I've seen that connection, actually.)

Any news on Brian Dozier? It's odd that he is not mentioned in reports of teams looking for 2Bs.
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
Not in the first tier of guys under consideration. But that's not to say he couldn't get  call and land somewhere.
Brian Massey
4:08
Could the Braves at least enter ST with Duvall in LF and Acuna in RF? He didn't work as a bench player, but given regular playing time he has a good glove and the ability to hit 30 HRs.
Jeffrey Todd
4:09
I was surprised they tendered him, so that'd surprise me even more. They could keep him as a platoon/bench guy but still need another piece there.

4:09
Does McCutchen's backloaded deal mean the Phillies have another move in store? Seems a bit odd to structure it that way otherwise...
Jeffrey Todd
4:10
I was thinking about this ... could be they will frontload other contracts to increase their value to FAs and differentiate from the rest of the market? Or just that it somehow lined up with anticipated future revenue increases to do it this way? I'm not sure.
