I could see a fit with Wieters ... feel-good story, let him try to get back on his feet and mentor Sisco/work with the staff (which will probably get younger if/when they deal Cashner/Cobb). Jones, I still think is drawing enough interest from contenders that he's just not a consideration for Baltimore. They have others to give opportunities to as well.

Does the Royals  move to speed and defense sound like the right direction?
Jeffrey Todd
4:24
It's always interesting to see a team try something that runs counter to the rest of the market. And that perhaps suits their park. I mean ... I don't know that a team of slap-hitters is going to get the job done. And the pitching still doesn't look good. But it'll be interesting at least to see if the formula allows them to outperform what you'd expect.
much needed yankees ?s

why do you guys never talk about the yankees? they're pretty good. are they done this off season or are they holding out until the deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
4:25
What is there to say, really? I answered a question above about the idea of them adding another starter. Otherwise ... we know they could still hypothetically make sense for Bryce or Manny but I don't think there's more to talk about on that front.

kidding i know you guys talk about them more than 95% of the other teams

Just give me any Phillies news.. We are absolutely dying here lol
Jeffrey Todd
4:28
Well I have none. But I do think this highlights the fact that ... dude, the Phillies have to do more this winter! Ditto the White Sox. And you could argue others (Padres, etc). These teams are going to have some cranky fans if they dont step up after setting high expectations.
I still am interested to see how the end game goes here. Pollock did still earn about what we predicted for him. Maybe it won't turn out terribly at the top of the market in the end.

The credit wars have gotten out of control havent they? as in, so and so was first on the year of the opt out, so and so first on that talks were serious, etc.

We just cite reporting as always. Maybe there are more reporters in on a given news story, but there has always been some piecemeal reporting on bigger signings/trades.

Cardinals: Trade Gyorko and Wong, move Carpenter back to 2nd and sign Machado... World Series bound?
Jeffrey Todd
4:32
I don't know, but I do think the Cards should be open to something bold like that. It's a tight division but they have an opportunity to improve to the point that they'd be the favorites.

Do you think if i read and studied your chats I would find tendencies on the questions you answer? Like a tell that you don't realize you have?
Jeffrey Todd
4:33
Probably. I suggest you apply yourself in other ways, though.

Jeff, Kemp is out of options and you have to figure that the Astros have Springer, Reddick, Brantley, Tucker in the OF mix. That leaves the last spot to Kemp or Marisnick. And I can't fathom the Astros only having one decent OFer so Jake has to be there too (not to mention a ton of LHH options).
Jeffrey Todd
4:35
Circling back to Kemp ... I don't assume they are going to put Tucker on the MLB roster to open the year. They may if he kills it in camp, I suppose. But again, I also don't think they necessarily view Brantley as a true OF piece in that equation.
Not to say they won't end up being in position to move Kemp, but I can imagine ways he still fits. And I think they'd be dealing him from a fairly weak bargaining position, fwiw.

Did I forget that the lefty arms in my pen are horrible? Why not trade Montgomery now and get an actual reliever?
Jeffrey Todd
4:37
Because they know they can't punt that critical SP depth.

Vlad Jr 2019 : .306/.368/.511 23HR (Steamer Projections). Do you take the over or under? Has there been a greater offensive prospect, ever?
Jeffrey Todd
4:38
Holy smokes. That is quite a projection. But he probably needs to iron some things out in the minors first, right???

4:39
What is a mystery team? Why don't they just reveal themselves?
Jeffrey Todd
4:40
Because they don't want their fans to get up hopes and then feel disappointed when it doesn't work out, they don't want to be used as public bargaining leverage, they don't want to piss off current players, and they want to keep their cards hidden in other negotiations.

Is there any treatment for advanced stages of a trade?
Jeffrey Todd

just thoughts and prayers, tbh

Sale 5/160 next year?
Jeffrey Todd
4:43
I can definitely imagine him ending up with a very high AAV on a shorter term than other such pitchers have earned. All bets are off if he's magical and healthy in 2019 but the injury woes last year will be remembered and he has always been perceived as a guy who could break down.
4:44
Whoa it got late! I need to put my attention back to the website. Thanks for the chat!!!
Maybe, just maybe, we'll be talking about a Bryce and/or Manny signing this time next week? Until then, take care!
