Most definitely
Oh did you want to know which ones? Can't tell you that, it'd be putting them on the radar!

Pitching woes aside, Padres will need a good lefty outfielder. Who should they target?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
For this year? I mean, I'm not going to advocate that they just give up. The Wild Card still isn't out of the question and they can afford to put some limited resources into near-term needs. (They and several other NL teams are more likely "light buyers" than the White Sox ... see earlier discussion.)
That said, they can't really go wild for rentals. And they don't necessarily need to sort out lefty-hitting 4th OF pieces of the future, or whatever.

Nice restaurant. You order a big Bone In Ribeye.Do you ask for ketchup?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
In what world is this even a reasonable question?
3:06
I'll tell you what my waitress at Gibson's Steakhouse in Chicago told my unfortunate colleague who ordered his steak well done: "Honey, Bennigan's this is not."

As a Braves fan, I’m not sure I want Bumgarner. Velocity is down and seems like a bummer to be around and would ruin the “vibe of the clubhouse with the young kids” does this make me crazy??
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Yes and no. Yes, because I don't think MadBum is really as good as he used to be and shouldn't be viewed as a top-tier starter. No, because I think most teams would LOVE to have him on their staff and in their locker room for the stretch run. Whether or not you think he can continue rising to the occasion as he has before in the postseason, he sure has been there and has never backed down.

Am I nuts to think the NL Central race ultimately comes down to the Cubs and Reds?   I really feel the Reds are better than the Brewers, Cards, and Pirates.  I think the Cubs always have that potential to run a 14-3 streak.
Jeffrey Todd

Anything can happen in that division. More or less as predicted/projected before the season.

I know you're a former attorney but you have never disclosed what sort of law you practiced. Do you mind divulging that tidbit of information? Mind humoring me just to quell my curiosity?

Corporate litigation.

Chances on the Cubs canning Maddon during the break ?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
I'd be pretty surprised. I guess it's theoretically possible if they really feel that a dramatic kick in the rear is needed. But I doubt whether the FO would really think that'd spur the club. Maybe if ownership has a bee in its bonnet and gets involved?

3:13
OK... so who are my trade targets besides Boyd and Madbum. And what price should I have to pay?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Stroman, Wheeler, Syndergaard, MadBum, Ray, Greinke
Swanhenge
3:15
Does Boston even consider a sell-off or are the expectations too large to throw in the towel?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Who would they sell off, really? They obviously are going to try to compete in 2020 regardless of what happens this year. And there aren't any major rental players.
3:17
Also, as much as I get (and often advocate) the idea of not going too wild just for a chance at a wild card bid ... the WC bid is still a 50/50 shot at getting a full postseason series. You can sneak in and win the World Series. So long as that's possible, it's hard to just give up entirely, esp for a large market team.

Any possible chance the Mets could give Syndegard to someone asking nothing in return if they took the cano contract if the Mets paid some of it down?  He looks completely washed up.
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
I doubt that precise scenario. But ... it would be the height of irony if the Mets had to give up a really good player to shed their portion of Cano's contract.
3:19
I also don't know that I'd call Cano done. He has almost always hit for such a long time. Still very possible he'll get sorted out and have some more productive stretches.

Do you think the Jays could (or would) trade Stroman and Giles in the same package for a singular higher end prospect (vs multiple lesser pieces).  Also, Kawhi Leonard is re-signing with the Raptors, right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
It's always more popular to talk about packaging 2 trade candidates than it is likely that it'll happen. It'd be particularly unusual to see two guys of that magnitude, both with ongoing control rights, packaged up. Not to say it isn't possible, though. There's a lot of value in each player, so this isn't like one of those scenarios where optimistic fans hope that a platoon guy and 2 relievers can magically be combined into an elite prospect.

I know its difficult but, the Yankees international sign, JASSON DOMINGUEZ,  if he was subject to the MLB Draft where do you think he would of been drafted?  top 5? top 10? top 20?
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
I certainly can't answer that from personal knowledge, but I will note that the Fangraphs crew moved him right into the 60-ish range among all MLB prospects. That is ... quite aggressive. (Not saying it isn't warranted; I really don't know.) That kind of confidence when he hasn't even played professionally yet would certainly seem to suggest he'd be a top-five type of talent.

Burgers or dogs yesterday? And do you think the single trade deadline will have more momentum/urgency than years past? Finally, what’s the over/under on Giants who are wearing different uniforms on Aug 1 because of a trade?
Jeffrey Todd

Both / Yes / 6

The Reds should still sell all soon to be free agents. Am I wrong?
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
Unless they fall apart in the next 3 weeks, yes, you are wrong.

3:27
I'm thinking the Reds should be try to be buyers at the deadline. The offers they would get for expiring contracts aren't worth the opportunity of meaningful September baseball. Thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
One of the next questions I came across!
3:29
Yeah the real thing here is ... they went out and got most of those expiring contracts in hopes of just this -- a real shot at the division. They've been a bit fortunate that no one team has run off with things, but that wasn't entirely unexpected either. And regardless, the fact is that they are right in the thick of things. So long as that's the case on July 31, you can't backtrack. See what your team can pull off.

What's more American on the 4th of July, a Pabst Blue Ribbon or a craft beer from the local brewery?

This is an important question. Seriously. Too many would swing wildly in one direction or another.
Here's the correct answer:
