Let's not forget that the last time he put up a season just like this one, the Brewers kinda pushed him out of their plans and then couldn't find much trade interest in him. Meanwhile, the M's are preparing to launch back in 2020. They have to take some of the guys they deal for and make them into pieces of their next contender at some point. Dipoto is surely feeling some heat.
9:10
Domingo is a high-K, contact-dependent guy. It just isn't the most popular profile right now. And it has its ups and downs. And he has usually been panned by defensive metrics. If a team offeres the right package, sure ... but it just doesn't seem like the stars are aligning.

Josh Donaldson seems to be having a productive ( and healthy) comeback season.  Thoughts on his next contract?
Jeffrey Todd
9:12
Could be a 2/50 or 3/60 type of deal, perhaps? Trending that way, anyhow.

What kind of return can the Tigers realistically expect for Matt Boyd?  Is he really the ace they think he is?
Jeffrey Todd
9:15
They don't have to think he's an ace. But unless they really truly think he's not more than a back end starter, they have to value him like one. Really don't feel like they can accept another meager trade return in this case. That'd have made more sense for, say, Castellanos last year. Of course, reports are that they didn't take solid offers on Castellanos, which is a bit harder to understand. But Boyd isn't JD Martinez, who was going to walk at the end of the season. They can wait and market him in the winter or next summer ... or even extend him or just hang onto him.

With Taylor going on DL should the Dodgers be trying to make a move for like Hamilton or Galvis or Todd Frazier?
Jeffrey Todd
9:16
Unless he's at risk of being shelved for the rest of the year, doesn't feel like a situation where they need to react with a trade. They can pretty much do what they'd have done regardless since the division is sewn up.

9:16
Do the Braves approach Dallas on an extension seems like a great fit thus far
Jeffrey Todd
9:17
Doubt it. I think they are glad to have the short-term commitment, just as with Donaldson. And let's give it some more time before reaching any conclusions as to his form.

Could you see the A's buying a new LOOGY, such as Jarlin Garcia, while selling on Buchter to another playoff contender?
Jeffrey Todd
9:19
If you have an existing guy you want to dump, you can do that -- maybe even in a trade -- and deal for a replacement. Buchter would be interesting to other teams even though his walks are a bit out of control (see what I did there).
But if you are suggesting some crafty scenario where they get Garcia for a song and spin Buchter for prospects, and get better now and in the future ... I do not think that will be possible.

Bailey gone. Hamilton and Gore will be gone. Who else do I need to jettison?
Jeffrey Todd
9:21
Would be nice to shed the Kennedy and Duffy contracts to the extent possible. Lucas Duda never made sense for the roster but whatever, doesn't really matter and he won't be traded anyway, just DFA'ed.
9:23
Wow big trade here.
Initial thoughts are that the Rays really got bemboozled

Stroman and Giles to the ATL given the AA connection? Luke Jackson is a 9th inning heart attack
Jeffrey Todd
9:25
And Giles has never ever been a heart attack in the 9th, right Astros fans?
9:26
The AA connection only really matters here to the extent he knows Stroman ... but we don't know if he likes him or likes-LIKES him or what.
Otherwise ... yes you could imagine that package making sense for ATL. Maybe going for a valuable duo with some control makes it hurt less to finally trade away from the upper-level prospect pool?

9:27
You don’t say, obviously cost will be the “primary driver” but my question was who. Instead you gave a hypothetical
Jeffrey Todd
9:28
Sorry, but I can't just start listing affordable relievers. There's a huge pool. Anyone that thinks they have figured out exactly which guy will make the most sense in this situation is probably wrong.
I won't blow smoke at y'all. It'd be easy to pick a name that has some hook -- DAVE DOMBROWSKI ONCE DRAFTED HIS DAD, etc -- and make an argument. But I don't do that just to do that.

Provided Bumgarner is traded, want to predict his new contract?
Jeffrey Todd
9:30
I predict we'll end up predicting something like we did for Dallas Keuchel last year. Like 4/70-80.  Lack of a QO will help him actually achieve something like that.

Am I crazy in thinking the Yanks should definitely trade Garcia in a package for a top starter?  Don't want to see the luster wear off like it did with Chance Adams.
Jeffrey Todd
9:31
Given their track record on recent prospect decisions -- trade vs keep -- I think I'd pretty much just feel content with whatever the Yankees front office decides to do.

What kind of pitcher could Derek Fisher bring in return, starter or reliever? He's already 25 and has some swing and miss to his game, but he's got speed and some pop and looks like he needs an extended look in the bigs (which he won't get in HOU). Not expecting a Stroman or anything for him, but do you see any rebuilding teams where he'd be a good fit and can bring back a pitcher that can help HOU? Thanks...
Jeffrey Todd
9:34
I don't have specific thoughts on a match, because we just don't know which teams really like him/his profile and because he's in more of a "does he fit the MLB roster" than "I'll take the talent at any position" type of position. But I do think he's the type of player that will hold appeal to some clubs that are interested in moving shorter-term assets. Dbacks want young MLB talent. The Tigers may have less of a case for near-term contention, but they also have loads of openings and could afford to fill it with a guy like that. Fisher is still young and will only be in the 1+ service class so lots of control yet to go.

Boxberger was DFA'd, no?
Jeffrey Todd

Yes, I was shifting into the realm of Royals guys that have been put to pasture. Their crop of buy-low vets was not very fertile this year.

Biggest named prospect moved this month?
Jeffrey Todd
9:39
Call me crazy but I'm not sure I see any of the top 20 type guys going out in a trade unless the Astros decide to move a blue-chipper and get a controllable starter. Which is possible. But if that occurs, are they really going to move Alvarez off the MLB roster? Or Tucker when he has such promise and could fit now and/or next year? Fine, maybe they send out Whitley after his messy year, in spite of his upside, but ... do you really sell kinda low on a guy like that?
9:40
The Braves are the other team to watch with elite prospects. Guess I wouldn't be surprised if they part with a significant pitching asset or two. But precisely which guy? Shrug.
