Of course, at some point the results will need to catch up to the metrics, and the Bucs are betting that’ll happen sooner than later. Archer is a quality asset regardless, but this deal was surely made based on the premise that he still can return to the higher standard he carried earlier in his career.

Otherwise, it’s hard to imagine the Bucs parting with this haul of talent in return.
Really went out on a limb there!

Do I get a qualifying offer this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
5:12
Sorry, I know gifs are more effective when you zing em out there right away. But I had to try.
5:13
I didn't know I could do that. From now on will respond only with gifs. But as an old man, it will take like 7 minutes per response.

How are teams taking the juicy ball into account for player evals this year and moving forward?
Jeffrey Todd
5:13
This is a very important question. One we are thinking about how even to approach. And certainly too broad for this chat. But fascinating to consider -- even just for arb $$$

How much of the decision to sit Acuna was up to him? Still think it was a good call. Thanks
Jeffrey Todd
5:15
I am completely mystified by anyone thinking this was anything other than an obvious decision.
So easy to make an injury like that worse or do something else. And then what?
5:16
And the plan is for him to try to steal 3 bags in like 4 games? At risk of losing a star for the postseason? Nah.
It isn't like he was on the verge of something completely and utterly unprecedented, either. Strange.

Any chance the Astros put Wade Miley on the shelf for the post season after his recent disastrous starts?
Jeffrey Todd
5:17
Feel like he'd at least still be useful as a long man.

I know I went all in this winter. Should I try again going all in and trade more prospects or maybe retool this year and trade Noah, Conforto, and Diaz for young ML ready talent and wait till 2021 when we have more money to spend in FA?
Jeffrey Todd
5:18
Can't really re-tool right now. Also may not have a lot of avenues to add unless they are going to spend more money. They are in a tight spot. Same issue as last winter, too: the other 3 division contenders are lined up to be good (assuming Phillies spend again).
Future Value?
5:20
Would you rather have Trout, Bellinger, or Acuna with their current contract and service time stats?
Jeffrey Todd
5:21
Might depend upon team situation. If you're the Yankees maybe you just take Trout because he's the best and is controllable for the rest of his career, even if he costs 4x Acuna.
In a neutral situation ... I'd say Acuna.

I'm competing for a fantasy baseball championship - who should I add to my roster for the final weekend to make that last push?
Jeffrey Todd
5:22
Someone playing in Colorado.
5:23
Side note: Steve and I are squared off in a final right now.
I beat him 10-0 earlier in the year, so I don't care what happens, because that is an absurd drubbing.
5:24
But this one is coming down to the wire. I will let you know how it turns out, if I win.
Do you see, Swami...
5:24
An outfield of Acuna, Waters and Pache next year at some point?
Jeffrey Todd
5:24
It rarely works out like that. How soon they have forgotten Austin Riley ... and he even had an awesome debut month. Tough game.
Postseason
5:25
which NL team would you least like to face in the postseason?  I think the Nats three starters are terrifying in a seven game series.
Jeffrey Todd
5:25
But that bullpen tho
I would least like to face the Astros, because they kind of have it all.
5:26
In the NL, I'd take the Dodgers, because they are so exceptionally deep.

How much do MLBTR guys get paid?  Is this your full time job?
Jeffrey Todd
5:27
Millions. Yes.
5:28
Welp the Red Sox just had a fascinating media session ... I better run off and do a post on it!
Keep an eye out.
Thanks for the chat!!!
