I wonder if they will try to score value in the OF market, where we have some imperfect options. And spend on a SS (Didi) and pitching.

With the 26 man roster do you see any teams going to a six man rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
8:15
26-man or otherwise, I expect we'll see more and more flexible pitching arrangements. Just sort of blowing up the form of 5-man rotation, 7-8-9th inning core relievers, etc.

If My team doesn't win 90 games am I gone?
Jeffrey Todd
8:15
90?!
8:16
Not saying they can't get there, depending upon what they do at least, but that's a big demand.
I think they'll need a winning season, at least. Maybe it'll matter how they got there -- was it fun and invigorating for fans? But it's all guesswork from outside.

How about a poll...Which of these 4 Cub players will be traded? Bryant...Swarber...Baez....Contreas?
Jeffrey Todd
8:17
I'll do something along those lines, sure
Likeliest Cub star to be dealt

Bryant (24.4% | 219 votes)

Contreras (26.8% | 240 votes)

Baez (2.5% | 22 votes)

Schwarber (46.4% | 416 votes)

What would the D-Backs require from Atlanta for Robbie ray?
Jeffrey Todd
8:18
If we believe the Snakes want young arms, then I guess ... as much of that young spillover ATL pitching as the D-backs can handle roster-wise. Not a bad match at all.

With the Phillies being linked to everyone, who do you believe they should target?
Jeffrey Todd
8:21
Let me just say this: part of this whole run of reporting of interest is ... yeah, teams are reaching out to like 15 starters, but that is gauging the market so they can punch the numbers and decide on the best value. Doesn't mean the market is necessarily popping.
8:22
We have seen runs on some guys in recent years. Probably what happened with Grandal to an extent. Think Wheeler is an obvious candidate. Pomeranz. Pineda. Unless and until we start to see things heat up on particular guys, I don't put too much into the expression of interest reporting.
For the Phillies, it makes sense they'd cast a wide net b/c they could conceivably land a premium player at any position except 1B, corner OF, and C.
8:23
Any other area they could add a big piece and shuffle other guys to make it work.

Thoughts on a CIN-COL trade involving Barnhart, maybe R. Iglesias and one upper, one middle tier prospect for Story? Along with picking up some of Story's remaining contract.. COL has a clear need for a starting catcher and bullpen help. All of this in lieu of CIN going after Didi...
Jeffrey Todd
8:24
I don't want to pick on you, but you are vastly undervaluing Story. There's a reason you feel like, "eh I think the Reds could give those dudes up without it hurting too badly." Story would be hotly pursued if made available -- affordable control, 2-way performer.

How shocked are you that the Yanks are gonna try and reneg on Ellsbury's $? Seems like poor optics all around, even if they might end up being able to save a few million.

In the post on the site, I tried to lay out some of the reasons to hold up a big old stop sign on rushing to judgment in any direction here.
8:26
There is a lot we don't know about the actual issues. Unless and until we hear more, I have a hard time really even thinking about it ... because what really is the issue? What specifically is he alleged to have done wrong? We don't really know ... just something involving his treatment for the 18 different injuries.

Francisco Lindor for Dansby Swanson, Drew Waters, and Kyle Muller

Let me try it this way ...
Is Swanson/Waters/Muller fair value for Lindor?

Hey Jeff! Did you see that Liberty Media interview on CNBC? Anything there to make someone think the Braves are gonna send more?
Jeffrey Todd

Someone (you?) noted it in the comments ... I dug it up and we are working through it now. Not convinced it is a huge tell but it is notable.

Beiber was never ranked in Baseball America or MLB.com as a top 100 prospect.  They called him a 4 or 5 and the other a mid rotation guy.  So how do you explain him now being called a #1 or #2.  What happened?
Jeffrey Todd
8:31
Not exactly a unique situation there ... even in Cleveland (Kluber, Carrasco). deGrom was once an afterthought compared to Rafael Montero.
8:32
Perhaps it says something about prospect evaluation ... these types of guys tend to have exceptional command. Perhaps advanced ideas about how to use their arsenals ... and how to develop and maximize them.
8:33
It is sort of like contact hitters that find power because they have such exceptional hand-eye coordination and such that they can sell out to tap into the power. Altuve is the obvious example of this ... he is tiny and looks out of control, yet is launching home runs. [insert sign stealing joke/observation/complaint here]

What say you about the rumored Braves outspending the Mets $160 million payroll this season?
Jeffrey Todd

This is in reference to the thing I mentioned above ... and that's not at all how I understood the quote.

Iglesias for Clint Frazier.    Who says no?
Jeffrey Todd
8:36
Kind of an interesting idea ... I am not actually convinced either guy is really exceptionally valuable at this point. But obviously there's talent.

If Ellsbury plays this year there's no way the Yankees can claim he's still injured because of his outside medical procedures and not pay him right?
Jeffrey Todd
8:37
One of a zillion potential elements to this. It could be an exceptionally complicated situation.

What would it take for me to deal Kieboom?
Jeffrey Todd
8:38
Just hard to imagine how that would make sense unless they don't like his outlook. (The really aggressive promotion, while obviously borne of desperation, suggests otherwise.) He fits the needs too well ... even if not asked to be a contributor out of the gates in 2020, then later in the season and thereafter. Could step in at second, third, first.
