What are the chances my Mets can get Bradley from the Sox? Would Smith interest them?
Jeffrey Todd
8:40
I think the Mets can get more for Smith. Don't get me wrong, Bradley is a fine rental target and a good fit for NYM, but he's not exactly laden with value at one year and eleven million (or whatever his arb number ends up at).
8:41
That also isn't to say there is a CF who specifically lines up with Smith. Like, maybe you wish you could get two cheaper years of Bradley in exchange for Smith. But each player/contract is a unique asset.

Do I go have a better chance of signing Cole or Strasburg?
Jeffrey Todd
8:42
I think Cole goes to the highest bidder with a slight pref for Cali. I think Stras will be more picky and will be drawn to remain in DC, perhaps west coast (esp SD) if he looks elsewhere. So I'd definitely say Cole is the likelier fit, even though he'll take gobs more to sign.
8:43
For the Angels, that is ... Billy Eppler is their GM. Again, appreciate him being willing to pop in.

What about swarb and Russell for merrifield and prospects
Jeffrey Todd
8:44
Um. My man. As above ... values are not in line with reality, to be honest. Merrifield by himself > Schwarb/Russell.
8:45
It is possible Russell will be non-tendered. Schwarber had a nice run to end the season, no doubt, but he's limited in some regards and not guaranteed to carry that forward. Merrifield is a really nice player on a good contact that would be in wide demand if offered up.

Do you think Gavin Lux is legit? He tore up the minors but was underwhelming in his short stint in the majors.
Jeffrey Todd
8:46
Way too small a sample to waver on assessing Lux.

What would a return for Josh Bell look like given his one good half season? Multiple mid-level prospects?
Jeffrey Todd
8:48
Not sure what you mean by "mid-level," but I think he'd draw fairly strong interest. The 1B market is not good. Even though we aren't seeing teams willing to plunk down 30 mil a year at that spot, it doesn't mean they don't want good bats at affordable prices to plug in there. I do think it would behoove the Bucs to explore the market.

Do you anticipate a slow developing trade landscape while free agents are signed, or no real connection this off season?
Jeffrey Todd
8:49
I think it is all completely interrelated -- trade and FA. Teams want to have an understanding of possibilities in both areas before acting.

Is Kris Bryant to Philly REALLY possible?
Jeffrey Todd
8:53
I mean ... sure? What isn't? The Phillies do have $ to work with, yes. But you could say the same of other teams. And what is it really going to take for the Cubs to part with one of the best players in baseball, still mid-prime? I have a tough time really understanding why they would suddenly be giving up Kris fricking Bryant to dump money.

White Sox sign Ryu at 3 years, $15 million AAV. Reasonable?
Jeffrey Todd
8:54
That would be good value. Expect he'll get more.
Rik
8:54
Rick Hahn all low key this year. First Grandal, now Abreu, could Cole be next for the White Sox?
Jeffrey Todd
8:54
That's quite a jump!

Wow. Give a bigger, drawn out answer for the Cubs more often...good lord

You prefer hot takes? I will try to find some hang on ...

With moves still to be made, would you say NL East is toughest division in MLB ?
Jeffrey Todd
8:57
It's not the BEST. But it's the TOUGHEST. My column:

Was talking with a friend of mine about Evan White signing--we both agreed it was a good thing for the player, especially since he is 3 years out of college--cant ever know what might happen , injury wise or playing abiility wise , in the future--whats your take??
Jeffrey Todd
8:57
GREAT for him ... unless he becomes a star. My column:

What kind of market value does Mancini have? Are we really losing our Keys in Frederick!?
Jeffrey Todd
8:57
Throw away those keys to a 2020 Mancini ... for a 2025 Tesla!!!!
8:58
(I grew up going to Keys games ... sad face)
Those weren't even hot takes. I'm not good at that, sorry.

Why would the Padres throw good after bad by including a prospect just to be rid of Myers’ contract? Don’t make a bad situation worse by giving up more value! Either stick him on the bench for the rest of his contract or cut him.
Jeffrey Todd
8:59
Oh I do have a take here: agree with not just throwing away prospects to an extent, but they have such a volume that it creates 40-man issues and if other teams value them so much, why not cash some in? If you don't believe in Myers, anyway ... Use the saved funds to get players you believe in.
Trade?

Cards send C. Martinez to the Jays for Giles ans Lefty Anthony Kay. What say you?
Jeffrey Todd
9:00
I think the Jays would rather keep Kay and cash in Giles for more controllable assets.

How do you see the Brewers lineup shaking out?   Do they take the hits on Grandal and Moose and hope Grisham replaces some if the production?
Jeffrey Todd
9:02
There are lots of dudes to consider at low prices to fill out the infield. Catcher is tougher but there are options there and if they don't spend a ton they will have cash left for pitching.
Big question to me is: what will they do at SS? Stearns runs quietly ... he's one to watch on a Trevor Story move. Also a Didi landing spot.

With the way the reliever market is shaping up, does it make sense for the Rangers to trade Leclerc or Clase?
Jeffrey Todd
9:03
I thought about that when I just wrote this relief market post https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/11/taking-stock-of-the-relief-mark...
