What does it take for the A's to pluck Merrifield from the Royals? I know Moore has said they aren't interested in moving him but as the Million Dollar Man used to say, "Everyone's got a price..."

Probably the first Billy Beane/Ted Dibiase comp I've ever seen.  Anyway, the A's would have to give up at least one of their top young arms (Luzardo, Puk, etc.) and at least one of their best young position players.  KC has made it clear they're not moving Merrifield for anything less than a king's ransom

Thoughts on the Panik signing? is he gonna be a util/AAA player? or do you see him actually having an impact?
Mark P
12:19
Not much risk in it for the Jays, as they can cut him before Opening Day if Panik isn't showing much in spring camp.

Am I a hall of famer?
Mark P

If I had a ballot, Helton would get my vote

What is the latest on Jacoby Ellsbury? I would take him for league minimum in Detroit.

I know the Tigers' roster is going through hard times, but surely you'd prefer someone who has actually played in the last couple of seasons, right?

Any chance the Nats don’t resign Zimmerman? Who do you think will get the most time at 1B? Thames? Kendrick?
Mark P
12:23
It seems like there's been so much talk about the Nats and Zim that if he didn't re-sign, it'd been unusual.

The Nats have given themselves enough infield options that they have a lot of flexibility around the diamond.  Could be more or less an even split between Kendrick/Zim/Thames, depending on where else they deploy Kendrick

Why do high revenue teams who are already over the luxury tax threshold care about not spending anymore for the upcoming season? Shouldn't they be in on anyone they could with a one year contract?
Mark P
12:25
Obviously teams don't feel the same way, but I tend to agree --- the actual dollars surrendered in luxury tax payments are so relatively minor that I don't see why it's a deterrent.  Even the ten-slot draft penalty is pretty minor.

Astros cheating scandal: just the tip of the iceberg for MLB ?
Mark P
12:27
I'd be very surprised if the Astros were the only team stealing signals via electronics.  Their penalties were probably the league's way of telling other teams to knock it off, or else the next round of suspensions/fines will be much harsher

Hazen indicated he still wants a CF.  The Cardinals want to trade Dexter Fowler and are willing to eat money.  Fowler lives in Las Vegas, so would probably be willing to waive his NTC...What would it take to get a deal done?
Mark P
12:30
Hmm, maybe a couple of decent but non-elite prospects?  Ultimately it would depend on how much money is being eaten by the Cardinals (or, of course, how much the D'Backs like Fowler)

Why didnt the Dodgers put a QO on Ryu?
Mark P
12:32
Ryu accepted the qualifying offer after the 2018 season, and a player can only be tagged with the QO once in his career

That's it for today's chat, I'll be back to answer more questions next Sunday morning
