Washington has seemingly addressed its infield situation with all of its veteran additions as of late.  Apart from the inevitable new deal with Zimmerman, not sure if they have anything else major in the works

Thoughts on why the trade market has been so slow to develop? All impact free agents are off the board now.
Mark P
11:45
It's funny how things seem to work in waves.  We had a couple of seasons where free agency was slow, in part because many teams were preferring to make trades rather than spent a lot of money.

This winter, it's seemed that we now have a lot of teams preferring to just sign a player rather than give up young talent in a trade.  As we saw at last year's deadline, teams are asking for the moon for star players.

Who closes in St louis?
Mark P
11:47
If Carlos Martinez does end up back in the rotation, I'd think maybe Gallegos?  Unless they would prefer him as a multi-inning weapon who isn't tied to the ninth specifically (not that he wouldn't still get his share of save chances).

Mark is this going to be the regular time for the Sunday chats?  I will have to adjust my work/sleep schedule!
Mark P
11:49
Next week's chat will also be on Sunday morning due to some scheduling changes, and it's possible the next couple of Sundays after that could also feature morning chats.  We'll try our best to keep everyone posted
Salary Dump
11:49
How hard is it really for the Cubs to dump Heyward?  What would it take to throw in with Heyward for another team to be willing to Take on his contract FOR FREE?
Mark P
11:50
Heyward is owed $86MM over the next four seasons.  The Cubs would have to offer something like the top 3-4 prospects in their system to get any other team to show any attention.
11:51
It's one thing if a Zack Cozart only has one year left on his contract, it's quite another if a salary-dump candidate has as big a remaining deal as Heyward

its looking more and more like the red sox wont move bradley or price?
Mark P
11:53
Bradley has the much smaller price tag but might be a tougher sell.  His hitting has never been particularly good and his glovework really fell off last year, so teams may not see him as anything worth dealing for, whereas at least they can have some trust that Price will still be a pretty decent pitcher in 2020
Tennessee Titans
11:54
Does anyone not employed by us think we have a shot?
Mark P
11:54
If anyone is still writing off the Titans after watching them dispatch both New England and Baltimore, they're foolish
Mets
11:56
Managerial issues aside (sigh), this team still feels incomplete. What moves should BVW make before the close of the off-season, and what moves will he actually make?
Mark P
11:56
The bullpen stands out as a need.  In terms of position player moves, the Mets have enough people on hand (if imperfectly) that I can see them starting the season with their current roster and seeing how things shake out, then re-evaluating prior to the deadline
11:57
i.e. if Nimmo/Marisnick ends up being a decent CF platoon, suddenly center field isn't an issue any more.

Time is getting short for Ozuna.  Could you see a one-year pillow contract?
Mark P
12:00
Still a few weeks before Spring Training, so it's not quite crunch time yet.  But if I'm Ozuna's camp, I've definitely had some internal discussions about taking a one-year deal if necessary.  I actually thought Ozuna might take the QO last fall
No Trade Clause
12:00
Teams kep giving players long contracts with no trade clauses despite it not working out very often long term. Is this something you see continuinin the future. I would not want to give one if i were a GM.
Mark P
12:01
I probably wouldn't either, but it's often the cost of doing business in negotiating a big contract.  Players want security and control over where they play, especially if they've already been traded a couple of teams in the past
Upset MLB fan
12:03
Fans really upset nothing happening to players, why?
Mark P
12:04
I'm assuming this is in regards to the Astros scandal, and the issue is that players were apparently given immunity by the league in exchange for their statements about the details of the sign-stealing.
12:05
If you're the league, I don't think it's feasible to suspend every player who played for the Astros from 2017-19 (or the Red Sox in 2018).
Theo

Is there a chance that some of the second basemen still on the market like Brian Dozier, Scooter Gennett, Ben Zobrist, or Yolmer Sanchez will be signed by a team that really needs a 2nd baseman? For example, San Francisco or Arizona?
Mark P
12:06
San Francisco is giving Dubon a look as the everyday second baseman, so I don't see them adding anything beyond depth.

But for the D'Backs, another second baseman would make sense.  I wonder if Arizona is holding to out to see if they get a center fielder instead, since their preference is probably to use Marte at 2B rather than make him more or less a full-time CF

Have you ever been to a spring training camp?  If so, what did you most enjoy doing there?
Mark P
12:08
I've only added Spring Training games on a couple of occasions in my life, but it's a great time.  Very laid-back, fun environment to watch some baseball
Davey
12:10
Didn't the A's just prove that its actually kind of easy to win 97 games? They basically had no rotation last year and did it. They look like 102+ win team with Luzardo and Puk there and everyone healthy for once.
Mark P
12:10
Winning 97 games, it's not that hard.  Tell him, Wash

It's incredibly hard.

Hey, anything worth doing is.

any chance Kirillof makes an impact this season
Mark P
12:12
Pretty solid chance that Kirilloff makes his MLB debut this season, though whether or not he'll get enough playing time (or be immediately good enough) to make an impact is TBD.
Twins are probably hoping, really, that their lineup is so good that they don't need Kirilloff to have to do anything in 2020
Chicago

can we get a poll on David Ross bringing more than 88 wins to the northside?

Mr. Theo
12:14
Do you think the Mets would bite if I offered Happ for Nimmo?  I need a center fielder.
Mark P
12:14
The Mets also need a CF, so I don't think they'd be too receptive to that offer
