Zaidi suggested he’s going to pick up and OFer or two, maybe by FA or maybe by trade. Can you think of a team or two that have surplus in the OF they might seek to jettison?
Mark P

The Reds immediately come to mind, as per that earlier question in the chat.  The Blue Jays or Indians might also fit this description, though they have less a surplus and more a "bunch of guys trying to break through and win jobs" types

Betts also seems to make a lot of sense for the cardinals, especIally if they tag on Price to the trade. Cards get bat to replace ozuna and protect Goldy in the lineup As well as another veteran arm. They have the money!
Mark P
9:47
Cardinals would definitely have to send a big contract (Fowler or Carpenter, plus the last year of Brett Cecil?) back Boston's way to make that happen, but I could see a possible fit.

Do you think an outfield addition is necessary, or is it valid to see if any of their current options are regulars then upgrade at the deadline?
Mark P
9:48
Mercado is an everyday player, and Luplow is a platoon guy at worst.  Between DeShields, Bauers, Allen, and Zimmer, the Tribe could (should?) be able to come up with 1.5 more outfielders.
9:49
I can see the case for keeping that group around rather than, say, splurging on Starling Marte.  That said, it isn't a wholly inspiring bunch for a contender.
Cincinnati Reds

Could you see the Reds and Dodgers working out a deal for Pederson? It would be a upgrade for the Reds and a payroll drop for the Dodgers.
Mark P
9:49
Another outfielder for the Reds?!  Probably not

Who are your NL Wild Card teams right now
Mark P

Arizona, Washington.  Right now I'd take the Braves to win the NL East

What do you see for a Danny Salazar deal?
Mark P
9:51
Hard to see him getting anything but a minor league contract.

Why dont the Cardinals make the trade for Arenado?
Mark P
9:52
I mean, it isn't exactly easy to work out the prospects and money necessary to trade for a superstar.

Is there no market at all for Jackie Bradley Jr. ?
Mark P
9:53
Doesn't seem like it, no.  More speculation from Mark....if the Sox can't figure out a way of move Betts/Price in the same deal, maybe they should aim lower and tie Betts/Bradley together just for the sake of getting JBJ's salary off the books
9:54
Hindsight being 20-20, I wonder if the Red Sox regret tendering Bradley a contract, given his seeming lack of a trade market

The giants drafted about 6 short stops last year and traded for the Angels for their first rounder too (who apparently wasn't a top 100 prospect?)-- Luciano is also a SS and is one of their highest regarded INF prospects in recent memory. what's with stacking the INF depth? Is it seen as the most valuable position? The most versatile type of prospect?
Mark P
9:56
Pretty much, yeah.  The more shortstops you have, the better chance of finding at least one who can stick at the position over the long term.  And the ones who can't stick at SS are more likely for an easier transition to playing 3B or 2B

The Giants probably don't want David Price, do they?
Mark P
9:57
I'm sure they wouldn't mind him in the rotation, but certainly not for $96MM

Any chance the tigers sign puig
Mark P

Al Avila downplayed the chances of Puig, calling him "not a priority" for the Tigers last week

Never say never given Detroit's lack of roster talent, but it doesn't seem likely at this point

What’s the next move for the Yankees?
Mark P
10:00
Probably not anything major.  A left-handed bench/utility player, another reliever.  Can't rule them out for a bigger trade but their roster is already pretty stacked

Thoughts on MLB Network naming DeGrom the top Starting Pitcher And Kershaw not ranked in the Top 10
Mark P
10:03
DeGrom seems like a very solid #1 choice.  And at this point, Kershaw is still an excellent pitcher but not a true top-level league-wide talent

If the Padres dont land Mookie, are there other players you could see them going after prior to Opening Day? ie Kris Bryant
Mark P
10:04
Pivoting to Bryant and playing him in the outfield would be a bold move for the Padres, but it wouldn't be a total shocker.  I feel like SD has to do something after over a year of all these talks about packaging their prospects for a star acquisition.  Not that Tommy Pham isn't a nice add, but more is needed to make the Padres contenders

Do you think the sox should trade betts? Based on everything youve heard to tbis point...
Mark P
10:07
SHOULD they trade Betts?  Probably not.  At this point, it feels like he'll be leaving in free agency, so I can understand that motivation to get something for him now.

But the Red Sox are both a) trying to win in 2020, and b) an incredibly wealthy franchise, so dealing Betts for luxury tax relief is a pretty weak argument.  And don't forget, the Sox would at least get a pick back via the qualifying offer if Betts did depart in free agency.
10:08
in short, if you have Mookie Betts on your team and you're trying to win a pennant, that's a good thing.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it

Why didn't teams that suspected the Astros were stealing signs change up their pitch-calling systems?
