It seems like many teams did, yet it's hard to implement a vastly different set of signs (or multiple sets of signs) in the midst of the regular season.  Plus, let's not forget that the Astros hitters are still awfully good even without any extra help from the trash can
Bob M
10:12
Thanks for all your insight Mark! Do you think the Mets will make any more moves?
Mark P
10:13
You're welcome, Bob!  Like most teams, the Mets will add some type of bullpen help before Opening Day.  Not sure about anything bigger, unless they finally figure out a Dom Smith trade

Will Alex Verdugo start in 2020?
Mark P
10:14
As much as anyone can "start" in the Dodgers (Bellinger aside) given all their players and flexibility, but I'd expect Verdugo to get a whole lot of playing time in 2020.
All Betts Off?
10:15
Why are the reported deals involving SD and LA so different? LA center package around youngster (3.1 WAR player in 2019) Verdugo, who is controlled for 5 more years and prospects AND they want LA to eat Price's contract....SD centers package around struggling Myers (2.7 combined WAR in last three seasons) where Boston takes on at least 1/2 of huge remaining salary and prospects and no Price?? Absurd
Mark P
10:16
The Red Sox know SD can't afford both Betts and Price, but LA can.  They also know the Padres need to unload some salary to make a deal happen, i.e. unloading Myers.

How likely is it that StL eventually offers Flaherty in a package for Arenado?  I think he's the most untouchable player on the team.
Mark P
10:16
You're very likely correct.  Flaherty isn't going anywhere.

Do you think Nimmo can be a decent CF?
Mark P
10:18
The Mets would be happy with "decent," or maybe slightly below average as long as he hits and gets on base.  The biggest thing for Nimmo is just to have a healthy season.
Puk and Luzardo
10:19
Explain why the Astros are better than the A's currently. A's pitching staff looks stacked with Puk and Luzardo added, Astros made no big moves and lost the best pitcher in MLB.
Mark P
10:20
The A's rotation looks very good on paper, but that's still a pretty inexperienced bunch overall.  We'll need to see them get it done (and stay healthy) over a full season before we can call it a top-tier rotation

Chiefs or Niners? Also, favorite super bowl food?
Mark P
10:22
I have already been informed that we're being served pizza and wings at the Super Bowl party I'm attending tomorrow, which is great in my books.

As for the game, it'll be close, but I'm picking San Francisco
BlueJays
10:22
Would a trade centered around Giles + Mcguire/Jansen from the Jays be enough for the reds to give up Senzel?
Mark P
10:23
Nope.  One year of a closer, and multiple years of decent but non-elite young catchers won't rate getting a top-10 prospect type
John
10:24
Whats the earliest Rutschman makes it to the show?
Mark P
10:25
Late 2021?  Seems early for a kid who was drafted just last year, but by all accounts Adley is a special type of player
Pete
10:26
If the Phillies extend Realmuto, will they have enough flexibilty to sign Betts or Lindor?
Mark P
10:28
They should, since ownership has indicated they'd go over the luxury tax limit for the right player, and those two certainly qualify.  The Phils will also get some money (Robertson, Didi) off the books after this season
Robbie Ray
10:28
Am I going to get traded- I heard my name a lot before and now I haven't heard it in months.
Mark P
10:28
The latest reports say Ray isn't being traded, since the D'Backs seem to be in contender mode
Philly Phan
10:29
Do you think this offseason‘s pace is better than last year’s?
Mark P
10:29
Absolutely.  It's a refreshing to have almost every notable free agent off the board by February 1, rather than still waiting on multiple big names

Do you think the Dodgers could dump Pollock if they took on Price?
Mark P
10:31
AJP is a name we haven't heard much of in trade rumors, but if the Dodgers are looking to move a contract to free up extra payroll space for both Betts and Price, Pollock would make sense.  He could also step right into Boston's outfield.
King Kelly
10:32
Do you see Randal Grichuk as a "real" CF?  He has a good career DRS, albeit in limited innings.
Mark P
10:32
He won't be Willie Mays out there, but like Nimmo and the Mets, the Jays would be pleased if Grichuk can be even an average-to-middling center fielder
10:33
Grichuk makes more sense in CF than, say, Fisher or Hernandez
EbenezerBatflip
10:33
Am I crazy for thinking Price has positive value? I just don't see anywhere else in free agency or even any teams looking to trade away good pitchers that have a pitcher as talented as Price available at all. Doesn't the scarcity of talent make Price a positive value to a team like the Dodgers who are already a playoff team trying to get the last piece to win a WS?
Mark P
10:35
Price is 34, has a notable injury history, is owed a lot of money, and has been only a pretty good pitcher (as opposed to very good or great) over the last three seasons.  He can help a team in 2020, but I think his cons outweigh his pros to most trade suitors
Dusty baker
10:35
How do you expect me to do in my first season with the club?
Mark P
10:36
Very well.  Even despite all the controversy, I'd still be surprised if Houston doesn't make the playoffs.
SeanMac
10:37
How bad is that organization being run in Cleveland? They have a franchise player yet extended Ramirez( which did seem like good money ) and Carrasco. Why cant some owners see what they have and build around guys like Lindor..smh
Mark P
10:39
This is a pretty harsh take on a team that has four straight 90+ win seasons.  The Tribe's MO for decades has been to lock players up on early-career extensions, like Ramirez and Carrasco.  Many of those decisions have paid off big-time, and some haven't.  In Lindor's case, the Indians are known to have tried to extend him early in his career but he turned down offers.

Any chance Mets trade Noah? And what team makes sense
Mark P
10:39
Next to zero chance at this point.  The Mets want to win
