Their position player situation is pretty dire, but that area is relatively easier to address than finding pitching, and the Tigers have a lot of good young arms in the pipeline.  If all goes well...2023?

Extension guess for my son?

I address this very topic recently, Mrs. Realmuto!

A’s as a dark horse to win the world series?
Mark P
10:26
I don't see them as a dark horse, I see Oakland as a legit contender
Austin Adams III
10:27
Would a 3rd Austin Adams cause MLB to collapse?
Mark P
10:27
Going by the track record of the third Austin Powers movie.....yes
Holt
10:27
Why hasn't the A's tried to sign me?  i am exactly what they need a left handed bat that can play multiple positions.
Mark P
10:28
I'm surprised Holt is still looking for a team, since he fits on a lot of rosters.  Oakland, in particular, would seem like an excellent spot

Am I wrong in thinking Ken Giles gets traded before the season? Seems like he is a luxury the Jays don't need
Mark P
10:28
Toronto seems to be planning to contend, so suddenly having Giles in the ninth inning is looking pretty good to them
Grayson
10:30
How much does the free agency of George Springer get affected by their cheating? Can't imagine the Dodgers or Yankees want anything to do with him
Mark P
10:31
Teams have overlooked much worse things than a cheating scandal to sign talented players.
Best Picture Travesty
10:31
Parasite, best picture?  What say you?
Mark P
10:31
A great choice by the Academy, a rare case of Best Picture actually going to the year's best picture

Does it make sense for the Angels to hold onto Marsh with guys like Trout and Adell both CF capable. Id love to see the Jays make a move for him.
Mark P
10:33
If you have three outfielders who are all CF-capable, that's a heck of a defensive trio.  Also, in a rare case of Mike Trout not being perfect, his defensive metrics were average-to-subpar in center field last year, so a move to the corners might not be a bad idea

Who will be braves closer
Mark P
10:34
Apparently it'll be Melancon, though I'd imagine they might be flexible based on matchups.

Is there a way to qyantify (or guessti) the impact analytics savvy coaches like the Pirates now have can impact the number of season wins versus last years crew?
Mark P
10:36
Last year was such a disaster for the Pirates that changes were absolutely needed, and it seemed like a managerial change might have been overdue by a season or two anyways.  As per statements from Robert Nutting and Ben Cherington, they aren't eager to rebuild (i.e. trade away everyone, including the younger guys like Bell) until they know how good everyone on the roster actually is, which is a pretty firm indictment of the last coaching staff
John
10:36
Ovi is getting 700 goals tonight. Will Pujols reach 700 home runs before he retires?
Mark P
10:38
Pujols has 656 now, and he is under contract for two more seasons.  It hinges on playing time, since if a contending Angels team is still putting Pujols out there for regular at-bats, they're probably making a mistake.  I think Pujols falls just shy
Gallo Wondering
10:39
Who is most likely to be available in trade for a CF Inciarte, Nimmo, Hays in Balt, Almora or Happ  who would you get and would cost less in prospect capitol
Mark P
10:40
I like Nimmo (for now) or Hays (for the long term) best out of that quintet, but the Mets and O's won't be dealing either.

Chicago shouldn't be putting too high a price on Almora, but I don't think he's much of an upgrade for anyone
Yankees

Do you ever see Kyler Murray returning to baseball?
Mark P
10:40
Nope
Gwynnopoly
10:41
You believe Acuna or Soto are bigger trade chips than Yelich and his contract?
Mark P
10:42
Yes, since Yelich is only controlled for three more seasons.  Acuna is under contract through 2026, and Soto controlled through 2024 (and isn't arb-eligible until next winter)
John
10:44
Will the Orioles trade mancini?
Mark P
10:45
Likely not by Opening Day, maybe at the trade deadline, and after that all bets are off.
KB
10:46
How much of my "I'd love to stay in Chicago" is real and how much is just good PR? Honestly, doesn't he go to whoever gives him the best deal?
Mark P
10:47
I have no reason to doubt that he does enjoy the city, his teammates, and playing for the Cubs.  I'm sure Bryant is happy to stay, with the unspoken addition being "as long as they pay me a fair contract" (which is true of any player)
Boldness
10:48
Bold prediction: Ketel's last season was a fluke, and he will be a .270 hitter with an .820 ops the next 5 years.
Mark P
10:48
It's possible, but even your alternate scenario is still awfully good production
Steve
10:49
Could you see future potential free agents refuse to sign with the Astros for the next decade or so? Or at least until this core is gone
Mark P
10:50
A full decade is a stretch, but I'm sure this scandal is a major reason why the Astros haven't done much in the way of player acquisitions this winter
