I don't think they'll trade him, but a package headlined by at least one top 100 prospect. Rosenthal reported the other week that Bauer's 2020 salary (which will be a few mill higher than his current $13MM) will tamp down his trade value somewhat.

Could baseball go to a system where you can loan players similar to in soccer?  It could be nice for a team like the Colorado Rockies to loan Blackmon to Cubs so they have a leadoff guy but then they get him back at the end of the season.

I noticed talk about Josh Donaldson and what he would bring to the table with a contract next year (2/40 or around that ballpark). However, doesn't seem absurd to continue paying out these massive AAV contracts to aged superstar players when it becomes irrelevant to do so? Love guys like Donaldson but he was worth that money back 4-5 years ago.

Donaldson's still worth that money on a per-annum basis today. He's had a great year. A contract around that total value (perhaps somewhat higher) looks probable during the offseason.
