Or maybe $400MM on the dot, just to make Betts the first official $400 million man (Trout's extension only had $360MM in new money)
Pirates catchers
10:47
Do the Pirates really start the season with Jacob Stallings behind the plate? Any chance they’d think about Russell Martin?
Mark P
10:49
I suspect Martin is holding out to try and land a job on a contending team, since he hinted last year that he might retire if he isn't on a contender.  That said, playing in a familiar environment in Pittsburgh might appeal to him if he wants to have one more season regardless of a return to the playoffs

Park Molishuk is an underrated spoonerism
Mark P
10:51
You'd think so, but when I buy an MLB team and rename the stadium Molishuk Park, I'll bet the fans will be upset.
Jay's nut

Does McKinney or Fisher plus Reid-Foley,  Drury enough to get inciarte?
Mark P
10:52
I'm not too high on Inciarte's trade value, but surely the Braves would want more than that collection of random parts.

What's the best possible outcome for the Dbacks this year? I see them squeak in the playoffs as a wild card.
Mark P
10:53
The Snakes are actually one of my picks to win a wild card this year.  I think they've built up an impressive roster.

Giants trade:   Samardjiza for Dominic Smith.   Giants need a long term 1B and the Mets hope to win now.
Mark P
10:55
The Giants have Belt at 1B for two more years, so Smith won't help them much in the short term.  And, since first base is a relatively easy position to fill, teams generally only try to add a "long-term 1B" if that guy offers truly elite production

JBJ traded so Bosox get something for him before he’s a free agent—more likely with Pillar aboard?
Mark P
10:57
I mentioned this in a chat a few weeks ago, but I wonder if the Sox are having second regrets about tendering JBJ a contract since there has been little-to-no trade buzz about him.
Who knows how the Sox might have approached the last few months if they didn't have Bradley's $11MM on the books.

Thoughts on Dozier signing? Why trade for Profar in the first place if SD was just going to sign Dozier anyways...
Mark P
10:59
Padres might not have known Dozier was still going to be around in late February, and available on a minor league deal.  Can't hurt to have more depth around, especially since Profar is far from a sure thing

Give us a totally ridiculous, random trade rumor that you think could be possible.
Mark P
11:01
Orioles attach Mancini and Givens to Chris Davis' contract to get it off the books.

This is completely made up off the cuff by me, to be clear.  But I guess it isn't impossible, under my stated "no such thing as a totally immovable contract" rule
Javier Baez
11:03
Could you see the A’s pooling their assets and making a huge trade for me?
Mark P
11:03
I wouldn't put it past Oakland to make an offer, but I doubt the Cubs would budge.  They've given the impression that Baez is the one star they want to keep over the long term.
Aaron Sanchez
11:04
Am I the guy you saw the past two seasons, or am I the stud we all saw three years ago? If Severino’s injury is serious, do I fit in the Bronx?
Mark P
11:05
The Yankees make as much sense as anyone as a team that could take a flier on Sanchez, though he can't be considered more than a lottery ticket at this point given his own injury status.

Can we do this chat all night please?
Mark P
11:05
I have to sleep at some point!  Though some might argue that my answers already sound like the incoherent ramblings of someone tired
Eddie Rosario
11:06
Am I a Twin in 2021, given than Kirilloff and Larnach appear to be very good at hitting baseballs and playing corner outfield defense?
Mark P
11:07
I'm leaning towards no, but barring a big dropoff in production, I also kind of doubt the Twins would just non-tender Rosario or something.  They'll continue to be open to trade offers for him, just in case
Sid Bream
11:09
After watching King Felix yesterday he looked sharp. How do you see him being used for Atlanta?
Mark P
11:10
Hard to put too much stock in an early spring training outing.  Best-case scenario is that Felix is the new Anibal Sanchez for Atlanta, but since that might be a stretch, there's still no harm in seeing what he's got, to compete for the fifth starter's role
Cubs CF
11:11
Almora or Happ?
Mark P
11:11
I'd prefer Happ.  I don't think Almora has much upside at the plate
Wanderful
11:12
What happens with Willy Adames when its Wander Franco-time? He's too good at SS to move to 2B...trade?
Mark P
11:12
Knowing how the Rays operate, probably
LAA DH
11:13
Is there no benefit to trade Pujols and attach a prospect to open up $29 and $30 million for this and next year?  Then use the DH as a rest day or for Upton more often than not?
Mark P
11:13
Pujols has a no-trade clause, so he probably isn't signing off on that plan
11:14
Time to call it a night, thanks for everyone's questions!
