The Royals don't have a history of those types of pre-career extensions, but that doesn't mean they couldn't start.

ETA for Nate Pearson in Toronto? Is he the first call up if someone in the rotation gets hurt?
Mark P
9:49
The Jays are more likely to call up one of their depth arms (basically all of last year's starters who have been pushed out by the new arrivals) before going to Pearson in the early going.  I'd expect The Airport to be in Toronto after the All-Star break, or thereabouts

Did the Yankees try and trade for Kluber? Rangers seems like they got him for a spare tire and a bucket of balls
Mark P
9:51
I don't recall the Yankees being linked to Kluber in any rumors, but I wouldn't be surprised if they checked in about him.

That said, with all the injuries the Yankees went through last year, I doubt they would've offered up a ton for a pitcher who missed virtually all of 2019

Do you anticipate any changes in strategy (more pinch hitting for position players, more defensive subs, etc) with an extra position player added to the rosters this year?
Mark P
9:52
Could definitely be possible, especially considering the other new rules (i.e. the three-batter minimum) now in place
Tommy John
9:52
Should organizations be quicker to diagnose pitchers arm issues? Seems like a lot of humming and hawing on arm issues before any decision is ever made
Mark P
9:54
You can't blame a player or a team for exploring all options before succumbing to Tommy John surgery and a guaranteed layoff of at least a year.

Plus, every arm issue varies from person to person.  Some bounce back quicker than others, sometimes inflammation is just inflammation rather than a warning sign of a more serious issue.

Puig a logical fit on the Angels?
Mark P
9:55
The Pederson pseudo-trade is a sign that LAA feels they could upgrade themselves in the outfield, so Puig can't be ruled out.

Team Pam or Team Karen?
Mark P
9:56
Team Pam, no question

The Giants obviously aren't competing this year.  They have one year of 35-year-old Jeff Samardzija.   They Yankees have to want him over some rookies.  Why wouldn't NOW be as good or better for a deal than waiting until the trade deadline?
Mark P
9:57
Most teams are content to stick with internal options at this point, even teams like the Yankees with more overt pitching needs.  By waiting until closer to the deadline, the Giants could get more from a team that is more urgent.
9:58
That said, if someone made the Giants a really good offer right now, my suspicion is they'd take it

9:59
What are chances ROY come out of Oakland with Luzardo, Puk and Murphy?
Mark P
10:00
The A's have more chances than candidates than most teams, which is pretty impressive for a club that is going to contend

Whit Merrifield
10:01
Hottest name at deadline this summer?  Why wait and just deal me now?  Cubs would do me well?
Mark P
10:02
The Royals have said they're not dealing Merrifield unless they get an absolute haul in return.  As much as KC is rebuilding, they see Merrifield as a building block for their next good team, as I think the Royals believe they're not too far away from contention again
Dodgers
10:03
I wish the Dodgers would deal Pollock and keep Joc to play every day. He deserves the chance. He hit lefties in the minors. He just hasn't had enough consistent chances against them at the MLB level due to the eggheads in the front office thinking they're smarter than everyone else with the ridiculous platoons.
Mark P
10:05
Yeah, what does the Dodgers front office know about putting together a good team?  Everyone knows that you're nothing until you win eight straight division titles....seven is child's play!
10:06
Put it this way: the Dodgers would love it if Pederson could be an everyday player against both lefties and righties.  But, if the Dodgers had any confidence in Pederson's ability to hit LHP, they wouldn't have spent all that money on Pollock.

10:07
Will both Pache and Waters make it to the show this year, and will that be the end of Inciarte’s run with the Braves?
Mark P
10:08
Inciarte is under contract through 2021 (and maybe 2022 based on a club option) but yeah, it's pretty clear the two prospects are the future.  I'd be surprised if Inciarte is a Brave by 2022, and maybe even 2021
Cubs
10:09
Are Cubs better off training Contreras to get pitching prospects since Caratini seems more than capable of taking over?
Mark P
10:10
I feel like this whole offseason has been a stream of people underrating Contreras (an easy top-5 catcher in baseball) and overrating Caratini.  Not to say Caratini isn't a good player or can't be an everyday starter in the bigs, but there's some real underestimation about how much a Contreras trade would hurt Chicago's lineup
Ya boi
10:11
The Rays made a few suspect trades this offseason, but I still expect them to do just as well as they did last year. Thoughts?
Mark P
10:11
Agreed.  I think the Rays will be back in the postseason again, at minimum
Bill The Cat
10:12
So Theo brings WS titles to the Red Sox and Cubs and will probably leave when his contract is up with the Cubs. Thoughts on his next "project"? Maybe bringing a 1st-time title to a team like the Mariners?
Mark P
10:13
I'd say Cleveland just to complete the curse trifecta, but I don't think there have been any indications that Tribe ownership is considering a front office change anytime soon.

10:13
If Judge misses anymore significant time.  TRADE HIM!!! What could they get?
Mark P
10:14
If I'm a rival team and Brian Cashman calls me to float an Aaron Judge trade, my first comment is "so he's that badly hurt, eh?"
10:16
Sorry for the delay, accidentally closed the chat window!
Just a boy with questions
10:17
Is Dylan Carlson forcing his way onto the opening day roster?
Mark P
10:18
Service time considerations will be a factor, but it would be cool to see St. Louis just throw their hands up and promote Carlson for the opener.
Josh Donaldson
10:19
Am I enough to transform Twins into World Series favorites?
Mark P
10:19
I don't know about favorites, since Minnesota's biggest question (starting pitching) is still a question.  I do like the Twins to win the AL Central, at least
