Bonds turns 56 in July.  That being said, if you told me this scenario actually happened and Bonds hit something like 15 homers in 2020, I wouldn't be surprised
jimmy
9:05
Who would you rather have Javier Baez , Royce Lewis or Chisholm
Mark P
9:06
Baez.  He's a proven star at the MLB level, whereas Lewis and Chisholm are still just potential at this point
Padres fan
9:06
Should the padres be concerned that Manny Machado’s spring batting ave currently sits at .050?
Mark P
9:06
Spring Training stats usually don't matter.  I'm not particularly worried
Yelich
9:07
Was I dumb to take that extension instead of free agency?
Mark P
9:10
In my view, no.  Since the Brewers surely would have used their 2022 club option, Yelich wouldn't have hit free agency until his age-31 season.  A lot can happen in three years' time, and maybe Yelich felt this more than most given his injuries and nagging back problems last season.

Who is Boston’s #5 and is there still a chance they trade for another starter? Asking for a friend
Mark P
9:12
I don't think the Red Sox know who their fifth starter is at this point.  The audition process is wide open, and the answer could end up being multiple people (or an opener/bulk starter combo) rather than a set starter
9:13
They're open to deals, no doubt, but there are enough arms on hand that McHugh might end up being their only new addition

Wil Myers comeback player of the year? What a spring!
Mark P
9:15
Myers having a big comeback year would be a pretty funny coda to this offseason of trade rumors.  I'm sure the Padres would love it.

do you think the DH in the NL is inevitable? If so, when do you think it arrives? what odds would you put on the DH coming to the NL in 2021?
Mark P
9:16
I think it's inevitable, though there's still enough resistance among the old-school NL owners that it might not happen in the next collective bargaining agreement (i.e. by 2021).
Sorry for the hedge of an answer, but it's 50-50 for 2021

Do you think mlb should invest in retractable roofs for the teams in northern half of the country? So we don’t Have cold weather playoff or even all of April baseball. Is this possible financially or architecturally?
Mark P
9:19
It's very difficult and expensive to attach a retractable roof to a pre-existing building.  And the only new "northern" stadium built in recent years was Target Field (which I cannot believe wasn't designed with a roof).

Who is the opening day 3B for the Braves
Mark P
9:20
My guess is it'll be Riley.
Dave Dombrowski

I've got more WS trophies than any current MLB GM. You got job for me?
Mark P
9:22
Anaheim and San Diego seem like teams that could make a front office change if they aren't competitive in 2020
Ryan
9:22
If Benetendi has a monster first half do you think the Sox trade him to try to re-stock the farm?
Mark P
9:23
I doubt it.  Benintendi is inexpensive and controllable, so a big first half just solidifies him as a cornerstone player rather than a trade chip
Mike The Millar
9:25
Jeremy asked the same question that I asked and you chose him over me.  That's fine, but then you answered a second question from him!   Where's the justice!
Mark P
9:27
I don't pay much attention to screen names, or often keep track of whether or not one person is getting more questions answered than others.  (It's also hard to keep track since several people have the same screen name -- there are multiple "Mason Saunders" commenters here tonight, for instance.)

I only care about screen names in the sense that I'm avoiding obscenities, or names that include e-mail addresses (I don't want to open anyone up to spam)

Angels and Oakland potential trade partners? Oak needs outfield help and Ana needs young pitching
Mark P
9:28
They're division rivals, so I'd lean towards no

Any chance Flathery signs an extension?
Mark P
9:29
Sure.  The contract renewal dispute seems more like Flaherty's protest against the system, rather than a beef with the Cardinals themselves.

Was it something we said to Yairo Munoz for him to go AWOL?
Mark P
9:30
What a strange situation.  I'll be interested to know the details about what's really going on with Munoz and the Cards

Do I finally get a world chamions t-shirt end of October?
Mark P
9:32
A couple of years ago, I noticed a guy wearing a championship shirt for a team that didn't actually win that title.  It was a totally random choice like "Minnesota Timberwolves, 2012 NBA champs" or something.  I asked him about the shirt, and he just said that he was a T-Wolves fan who wasn't counting on them winning any time soon, so he had a shirt made up himself
9:33
My point is, don't let the facts stand in the way of a fashion choice!
Oakland
9:33
Joc to Oakland? Sound like a good fit?
Mark P
9:33
He'd make a lot of sense for the A's, I'd agree

Worst record in MLB this season? Orioles, right?
Mark P
9:35
They're my pick, no doubt

Ever?  The Simpsons, and it goes without saying that I'm specifying the 1991-99 golden era
