Can the Cardinals repeat as division champs without adding to an offense that lost Ozuna?
Mark P
9:39
I have a lot of concerns about the Cardinals lineup, since they are putting an awful lot of faith in rebound seasons from the veterans and breakout years from their younger guys.  I think DeJong might be the only guy on the roster who I'm pretty sure of going into 2020

People in Minnesota like  cold weather and real grass. Roofs are for wimps.
Mark P
9:41
Roofs are also good for, you know, not having 10 games canceled or postponed every season.

Arizona surprised everyone by winning over 80 games without Goldy. Do you think they will surpass last years record and make the playoffs?
Mark P
9:42
I have the D'Backs winning a wild card this season

There was talk a while ago about reducing the regular season to ~150 games.  Theory being that most teams do not sell out every game anyway, and that having more days off would reduce injuries and late-season fatigue.  Your thoughts?
Mark P
9:44
I wouldn't be against it, but I think a lot of teams would balk at losing games due to TV contracts more than attendance.

On National Women’s Day, I’m hoping you will answer my question: do you see Matt Klentak on the hot seat if the Phillies don’t make the playoffs this year?  How much of their struggles are on him vs. McPhail/ownership?
Mark P
9:47
Klentak is another GM under added pressure this year.

In terms of assigning blame for the Phillies' lack of success since their rebuild "ended," I'm not sure it's any one person at fault.  As an organization, it seemed like they wanted to jump back into contention before they really had the base of young talent built up that other rebuilding teams had --- the Phillies had just Nola and Hoskins before they decided to start making big-money additions again
Sorry I'm late

What can actually be done as an outcome about teams like Pirates being investigated by players association?
Mark P
9:53
Might help pave the way for a salary floor to be negotiated into the next CBA.  I think some owners of big-market teams would be on board with that idea as well, since they're undoubtedly annoyed at having to pay revenue-sharing funds for the sake of "competitiveness," only to have the teams receiving those funds just keep the money rather than spend on payroll

Visiting the hall this summer (my daughter scored an internship) any off the beaten path recommended in Cooperstown?
Mark P
9:55
I've been to Cooperstown twice in my life, but both times on rather abbreviated timelines so we only had time to visit the HOF and not much else.  I'd have to imagine that entire town is a blast to explore, however, with all the baseball-themed stores and memorabilia shops

Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy?

Jeopardy, easily

Are the Orioles worse than the Giants though? I'd wager no
Mark P
9:56
Who will win more games in 2020?

Giants (79.7% | 299 votes)

Orioles (20.3% | 76 votes)

Total Votes: 375
The instantly one-sided nature of this poll should answer that question.  The Giants have a lot more talent on hand than Baltimore

Do you see Phil Ervin or Scott Schebler being traded before opening day?
Mark P
9:59
They're both out of options, so Cincinnati will have to move at least one if they don't want to keep both on the MLB roster.
Cody

You're not sure of Goldschmidt for the Cards?
Mark P
10:00
Goldschmidt's performance dropped off a lot last season.  So, I can't be certain if a still-good but not elite 115 OPS+ is the new normal for him, or if he'll decline further, or if 2019 was just an aberration and he'll start hitting like he did with Arizona

Charlie Morton is a prim trade candidate for the Ray's whether they are winning or not, correct?
Mark P
10:02
Morton is under contract for the 2020 season and the Rays have a club option on him for 2021 (that vests if Morton spends less than 30 days on the IL).  So while he's expensive by Tampa Bay standards, this is also a team that wants to win this season, so I highly doubt they'd move him this year unless they fell out of contention at the deadline.
10:03
As for the vesting option, Morton has openly discussed the possibility of retiring at this season anyway, so it could be a moot point

10:04
150 game seasons would be lame for records, which is a big part of the fun of baseball
Mark P
10:04
A move back to 154-game seasons would be at least interesting from a tradition standpoint
Brewer Bucks
10:05
Do the Brewers try to extend Hiura?
Mark P
10:06
I wouldn't be at all surprised if they've already approached his camp about an early-career extension

Do you think Jose Bautista has any chance to make a comback as a two-way player?
Mark P

The odds aren't great, but man, it would be fun to see
Robbie Baseball
10:07
Do you think a team like the Blue Jays could surprise people next winter and sign Mookie Betts to play alongside their young core?
Mark P
10:08
I would guess that $400MM is too pricey for the Jays, though ownership does have the money.  Whether they'd approve such a payroll hike is another matter
Royals
10:09
Singer, Lunch, Kowar all lights out this year.  Underrated offense with the HR champ and the Hits leader.  Royals 2020, BABY!
Mark P
10:10
It would be a stretch, but stranger things have happened in baseball
Baseball
10:10
Why on Earth would oyu want a shorter season?  Just bring back doubleheaders.
Mark P
10:11
To be clear, I personally have no interest in a shorter season.  Frankly, I find it hard to believe that MLB can't work out a schedule that doesn't put teams in situations like, say, playing 22 straight days, or traveling to the West Coast after a night game, etc.
