Never a bad time to re-watch the Office (assuming you stop after the seventh season)
Nick

Does it really make sense to expand before moving the Marlins & Rays?
Mark P
8:41
I'd hold off on moving the Marlins to give Jeter's group the chance to salvage the market.  As for the Rays, I have my doubts if a new ballpark can be built in Tampa/St. Pete, and I really have doubts about any sort of split-city plan with Montreal.

So in short, you're right, expansion probably isn't in the cards for a while yet
Alex
8:42
What do you think the range of the potential number of regular season games that will be played is at this point: 80-140?
Mark P
8:42
I'll say 108 games, two-thirds of the regular schedule
Me?
8:43
Senzel, Barnhart & Stevenson for Alfaro, Villar & Sierra. Who says no?
Mark P
8:43
Reds wouldn't do that, it'd be a real sell-low on Senzel
Jim

Was Beltran HOF before the scandal? Is he now?
Mark P
8:45
Yes before the scandal, but now I wonder about his chances of getting past a writers' vote.  Beltran would have this weighing down his reputation for a while
Could, that is, not 'would'

Bang the Drum Slowly
Mark P

I've never seen that one, but I've heard it's excellent with a good early-career De Niro performance

Will most players maintain where they are as of the stoppage (SP at 4/5 innings) of spring raining or will many go to winter routines until the new spring training?
Mark P
8:50
Given the CDC recommendation, I wouldn't be surprised if the league issues some kind of official "no baseball until at least this date" announcement, just to give teams and players some guidelines about how to proceed.  If that date is, say, May 15, some pitchers might ramp down their throwing rather than try to 'stay warm' for weeks
8:51
It'll probably vary from pitcher to pitcher based on arm strength, injury history, etc., but it's all very up in the air right now

With the Astros scandal, do I see Pete Rose getting reinstated
Mark P
8:53
I don't see what one has to do with the other.  Regulations against electronic sign-stealing were rather vague or (as per the league's report) not delivered to Astros players by Jeff Luhnow.  The "don't bet on baseball" rule was as clear as day, and Rose broke it.

Will an abbreviated season make it easier for teams that are projected to be really bad (Tigers, O's, Pirates, Giants, etc.) to tank from the start and essentially consider this year to just be a wash?
Mark P
8:55
I think at least three of those teams would've been tanking from the start anyway.

And like I said earlier, a shortened season could lead to any number of unexpected teams getting hot in a small sample size.  Don't forget, the Giants were in the wild card race last July.

How badly are the Rangers hurtin’ considering the grand opening of their shiny new park has been significantly pushed back?
Mark P
8:57
This situation isn't good for anyone, but yeah, it's particularly tough on the Rangers.
In Cashman we trust
8:57
After the shutdown how long will it take players to ramp back up to be able to be ready for the regular season?
Mark P
8:58
Depends on the length of the hiatus, but I'd guess probably at least three weeks
Dill
8:59
The rangers are hurtin’? What about the fans and players in DC wanting to raise their first WS banner
Mark P
9:00
Nats ownership should raise the banner anyway in the stadium on what would have been Opening Day.  It'd be a nice treat for fans to watch online.
Randy
9:01
With the abundance of outfielders the Reds currently have I know a trade is more likely to happen do you you see Mark Payton making the team or being sent back to the A's??
Mark P
9:02
Probably sent back to Oakland, he wasn't exactly ripping it up in Spring Training
Nick
9:04
Worst baseball movie?
Mark P
9:04
It's not THE worst, but Trouble With The Curve was pretty bad
Freeway
9:04
Rengifo and prospects for Stripling and Pederson.
Mark P
9:05
You'd think the Dodgers and Angels would've revisited that trade by now if it was still a possibility, so I'm guessing it's off the table
Alex
9:07
Is there any scenario you can envision where Bauer signs with the Yankees if Paxton and/or Tanaka are not re-signed after the season? Or does he contentious relationship with Cole make that nearly impossible?
Mark P
9:08
I assume the Yankees might check in Cole about such a signing if it became a possibility, and Cole might not mind if he feels it gives the team a better chance to win.  Wouldn't be the first time two teammates haven't been big fans of each other.
Mark
9:09
Ceiling for Luis Robert this year? Is a 2018 Acuña season that crazy?
Mark P
9:09
Given that Acuna-esque rookie seasons happen maybe once a decade, it's kind of crazy.  But I do think Robert is a big contender for AL ROY
Lone Ranger
9:10
Solak seemed to be getting shafted but the terrible Calhoun injury opened up PT. What does your crystal ball predict for Solak this season? Understand the crisis, but on a rate basis - how much pt and is the bat good enough to overcome the glove and make him a good ball player?
Mark P
9:11
Solak has a lot of potential, and frankly, I think I'd like him more at 2B than Odor at this point.  If I was the Rangers, I'd be looking at ways to get Solak into the lineup as much as possible
Nolan A
9:11
Will I need to waive my opt-out to get traded?
Mark P
9:12
He's not going to waive it, that would be giving up a major contractual clause for no real return
Michael
9:12
Thoughts on the job Farhan has done so far?  Yaz was a nice pickup last year but other then that it’s going to be many years in the process before they are back in playoff contention
