Any number of Statcast-style metrics that try to provide a deeper analysis of how a pitcher does or doesn't achieve success.  This includes everything from pitch selection, to the defense the pitcher had behind him, to whether or not the pitcher got some lucky breaks from an umpire's call, or a hundred other factors
I say "Statcast-style," though just about every club has its own in-house methods of analytical evaluation.

Lou Whitaker is a HOFer right?
Mark P
8:44
Absolutely, in my view

What upside numbers do you foresee in Vladdy's future? Will he be HOF like dad?
Mark P
8:45
That's an awfully high bar for any player to climb, given how great Vlad Sr. was.  If anything, it's a little unfortunate that Vlad Jr. will always have an extra pressure hanging over him, so if he is "only" a very good hitter but not a superstar, he'll be seen in some (ignorant) circles as a disappointment

Jimmy Wynn, RIP. He was one of my favorites when I was a kid.
Mark P
8:48
Wynn's passing brought forth a real outpouring of memories from fans, both in Houston and around the game in general.  It's great that a player who seemed so underrated when he played made such a lasting impact on fans

Jordan Hicks will be the Cards closer when the season starts back up in August?
Mark P
8:49
Hicks had his TJ surgery in late June 2019, so an August return isn't out of the question, but it would still seem a bit quick.
8:50
Even if he does return, the Cardinals might prefer to ease him back into less-intense situations than the ninth inning

What are you watching now instead of baseball?
Mark P
8:53
Trying to catch up on some old movies and TV shows I'd been meaning to watch.  One recommendation: Taskmaster, a British comedy/improve/game show that features five comedians challenged to complete a series of strange or random tasks.

Do you like the idea of 7 inning double headers?  As a fan living able to go to games I’d like that opportunity
Mark P
8:56
I'm a little wary about changing the structure of the competition itself, since that opens the door to baseball just permanently going to seven-inning games in an effort to reduce game times.

Regular double-headers sure, that seems inevitable in a shortened season.
8:57
If they're worried about extra innings, here's my proposal: ties.  If things are still knotted after an extra 10th inning, just call it a draw.

I'd frankly prefer a 10-inning tie than a seven-inning pseudo-game.

Will I regret trading for Giancarlo Stanton?
Mark P
8:59
The trade was such a clear opportunity for the Yankees at the time that I can't even really call it a loss, even if Stanton has been so banged up by injuries in his time in NY.

If he never gets on track and is injury-riddled for the rest of his career, it won't be a trade Cashman will look back on too fondly, though the logic and process that went into the decision was more than sound

We've been chatting for over two hours now, so it's probably time to wrap things up.  Thanks so much for everyone's questions, it's great to just talk about baseball.
