I'd guess more likely
Yankees
5:36
Will I end up regretting that shohei ohtani didn't end up coming to my game or do you think Giancarlo Stanton will start to become the Giancarlo Stanton I was on the Marlins?
Mark P
5:37
I don't know why so many Yankees fans point to Ohtani as a missed opportunity, or as "the one that got away."  Looking back at the teams on his initial short list, it was pretty clear he was favoring clubs based on the West Coast....the only non-western teams under consideration were the Cubs and Rangers

5:38
What is your favorite Major league baseball video game?
Mark P
5:39
The old Ken Griffey Jr. game for Super NES, which is why I was so delighted to see a piece about the game appear on The Athletic this week
Barney
5:39
Carlos Beltran is pretty close to the HOF ballot
Mark P
5:40
True, Beltran's HOF case will take a hit, especially since he was apparently involved in concocting the scheme.

That said, there are plenty of players in Cooperstown who bent or broke rules.

Did you ever attend any World Series games? And which ones?
Growing up did you go to a lot of Major league baseball games?
Mark P
5:41
Never been to a Series game, though I was there in person for a few Blue Jays ALCS games in 2015-16.
5:42
Growing up, my family went to a couple of games per year.  Back in the day when the Jays were selling out the SkyDome every night, we had to plan ahead to get our tickets months in advance, and make a weekend of going up to Toronto to see two games and visit the city
Late Start
5:43
Do you think power hitters could struggle with their timing and see a dip in there home runs as a result of the down time?
Mark P
5:44
This is one of the reasons why I doubt Justin Turner's HR derby idea would fly.  Don't a lot of hitters complain that the derby messes up their timing?  And that's just a one-off occasion, so I'm sure a lot of guys wouldn't want to do that on a semi-regular basis

will lack of a position hurt austin martin for the top spot in the draft versus torkelson at first?
Mark P
5:46
If anything, Martin's defensive flexibility will help him.  From what I know of his scouting report, Martin can play multiple infield positions, which is a sought-after skill as teams are more and more interested in super-util types.
Best Prospect
5:47
Who is the best catching prospect in the minors who hasn’t been called up?
Mark P
5:48
Joey Bart or Adley Rutschman.  Hey, if only there was a way to pick between the two...

A season cancellation would hurt which team the most?  My guess would be my a's with an already tight payroll situation and losing a key year when Chapman and Olson are still on the minimum and a final year of Semien.
Mark P
5:49
It would definitely hurt the A's quite a bit, especially losing Semien.  That said, Oakland's long-term strength is its young pitching, so the A's are still lined up pretty well to contend over the next 3-4 years at least.
Rangers29
5:51
What's crazy is that, since the Rangers made their big run for Ohtani - saving up a lot of international money - they're able to now go out and get big guys in the international market. I guess that's a good thing since we are consistently right in the middle of the draft class.
Mark P
5:52
Not a bad silver lining, true
Dayne
5:53
Always been curious about this, but if the Joc Pederaon trade went through who else would be included in the package to the Dodgers?
Mark P
5:55
This was the big unknown about that deal, since Luis Renfigo was the only Angels player identified as being part of the package.  If another significant talent was included, it would make more sense why the Halos pulled out of the trade
Yankees fan
5:55
Why did you have to go up to Toronto to watch games getting you grow up in Wisconsin if you are a Green Bay Packers fan or did you go up elsewhere near Toronto?
Mark P
5:56
I grew up in London, a couple of hours outside of Toronto.  I adopted the Packers as my team semi-randomly when I was a kid, since I enjoyed the history.  My timing ended up being great, since I became a fan right at the start of the Brett Favre/Reggie White era

no off-season lets have a super-season playing at sites capable of handling the winter months, a 324 game season and a champion of 2020-21
Mark P
5:57
Now THIS is a novel idea.
5:58
If it leads to a comically-oversized Commissioners' Trophy, I'm all in

Do you think Jack Morris is a HOF, despite having a career 3.90 ERA?
Mark P
5:59
I personally wouldn't have voted for Morris, if I'd had a ballot.  I think his HOF case is made more or less entirely around Game 7 of the 1991 World Series.
Definitely a "hall of very good" pitcher, but not in my personal HOF, no
Pujols
6:01
if the season is cancelled do I get released before next year? Can’t imagine a one year layoff making me any better?
Mark P
6:02
I don't see him being released outright, unless there's some kind of tacit agreement between Pujols and the Angels.  Especially since now the team will be saving most of the salary owed to Pujols in 2020
Sambino
6:02
Do you think that Major league baseball will get rid of the qualifying offer system it does leave a gray cloud over a player trying to get his next contract
Mark P
6:03
Some further adjustments will probably be made to the QO, but I think teams will insist on having some sort of compensatory measure in place for free agents
Game Time
6:05
How many games do you think we will get in this year?
Mark P
6:05
I continue to be optimistic and put the total at 81, since the league will play into October and November if need be
6:06
Though the more I think about it, that "super season" idea combining the 2020-21 standings actually sounds pretty interesting
