Players who were bought out of their contracts last year have already received their money long ago, I'd imagine

Let’s say MLB plays 82 games, and expanded playoffs and the ratings are through the roof. Fans love the all or nothing season and want more, would owners cave and give the people what they want?
Mark P
8:08
I don't think the league would suddenly halve the schedule, no matter how popular an 82-game season would hypothetically be.  That's a lot of money left on the table.
Firsts or worsts?

Is the padres player that throws their first no hitter on the roster, or do they beat the phillies futility record in 5 seasons?
Mark P
8:09
Since I'm an optimistic person, I'll say sure!  And since no-hitters are largely due to random chance, I'll say double sure!
The Padres never having even a single no-hitter is just one of those weird flukes of history

If minor league teams are on the chopping block do you see independent teams forming  like Bing Russell did with the Portland Mavricks
Mark P
8:11
It's quite possible that a reduced minor league could result in a larger independent league system, should some of the team owners who get squeezed out want to remain operational

If Grich goes into hof shouldn't I also?
Mark P

Absolutely

With several bad contracts coming off the books and Desmond's AAV dropping to 8m or so, how do you see the Rockies approaching the coming offseason?
Mark P
8:14
Colorado can lose Shaw, McGee, and Murphy after this season, so that's $30MM saved.  Wade Davis is another possibility, though he has a vesting option that will be impacted in some way by what happens with a shortened season.
8:15
So that's a lot of money being freed up, and it opens the door for the Rox to potentially spend elsewhere if they think they still have a contending framework in place.  That said, there's also the looming question of what to do with Arenado, or whether or not to extend Story, or whether the team feels comfortable spending more in free agency after so many signings have blown up on them, etc.

Any chance Odubel Herrera gets a look on the Phils if there is a season?
Mark P
8:18
I suspect we've seen the last of Herrera in a Phillies uniform

Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers?
Mark P
8:19
As a Packers fan, this is a toughie.  I'll take Rodgers, since ultimately, he's the more consistent quarterback.  Favre was just as prone to throwing a back-breaking INT as he was a big touchdown, whereas Rodgers makes all the big plays and way fewer mistakes.

Why wasn't Yoan moncada not comeback player of year for 2019?

Uh, what was he coming back from?

If Theo Epstein gets tired of the frugal ways of cubs ownership what team can you see banging on his door first?
Mark P
8:22
Purely speculative on my part, but the Phillies and Padres come to mind as a potential candidates

Any NL team a match for Puig to DH? Maybe Philly as McCutchen insurance?
Mark P
8:23
It would be kind of ironic if a minor bidding war suddenly develops for Puig, but with the DH now in play, he makes sense for multiple teams in the NL

Question, should an office reboot be in the cards?
Mark P
8:24
Nope.  Leave well enough alone.  Plus, in this age of old shows being discovered by new generations on streaming services, you don't actually need to reboot anything --- the Office is seemingly more popular today now than ever before

Should Tony Clark be pushing the league to open its books in exchange for 2020 player salary concessions?
Mark P
8:26
I'm sure he could ask, but there is no chance the owners would agree to fully and completely open their books
Padres458

Padres have a gm.
Mark P
8:28
They do, though Preller's deal is up after 2022, and ownership already indicated last year that they're getting tired of losing.  If the Padres don't at least get a winning season before 2021 is up, I could see a change being made.

Breaking Bad or Ozark?
Mark P
8:28
BB is one of my all-time favorite shows. Ozark, I gave up after the first season....I didn't think it was bad or anything, just didn't feel overly compelled to watch further.

do you think the NBA & NHL's getting policies in place to reopen will push the players and owners to come to some agreement to get things going before they lose this golden opportunity?
Mark P
8:30
I'm sure that's a factor on some level, but worrying about what other leagues are doing (especially when those leagues have comparatively much less to figure out) is pretty far down baseball's priority list right now.
Baseball is trying to launch their season from day one, remember.  The NBA and NHL are essentially just trying to figure out their postseasons.

Did MLB present their financial offer to the players union yeti

With teams losing money this year, what teams do you think will make an offer for me?
Mark P
8:34
Projecting a Betts market is more uncertain now than it was three months ago, no question, but I think a lot of the same usual suspects will still be in the mix. I'd consider the Dodgers as the favorites.
