Will There Be
8:34
A season this year?
MLB Opening Day
8:34
July 1st or gulp March 31st?
Starting to think Season will be cancelled.  Tell me I am wrong
Mark P
8:35
I'll stick with my position in last week's chat -- I'm still 55-45 in my belief that a 2020 season will take place.
Doug
8:35
Where’s the neither option for the Harper question? Or should I leave it blank.
Mark P
8:36
I left "neither" out of the poll since I think it would have been the winner by a wide margin.

Favorite league? MLB, NBA, NFL, or *wincing* NHL? dont worry... I wont tell your boss if it's anything other than MLB ;)
Mark P
8:38
Baseball is easily my favorite sport, no reason for Tim to worry!
Jesús

Luzardo, Puk, Chapman and Olsen for Acuna and Siroka. Who says no?
Mark P
8:39
Atlanta.  Acuna is valuable enough, but Acuna on that long-term contract makes him alone more valuable than that whole quartet.

Assuming baseball  is played this season. With expanded rosters and Trey Mancini out for the season. Do both Adley Rushtman and Ryan Mountcastle play this season for the Orioles?
Mark P
8:42
Mountcastle was very likely going to debut at some point anyway, so he's a strong yes.

Adley, probably not.  As good as a prospect as he is, he still hasn't made it past A-ball.  A jump to the majors so quickly might not be helpful to his development, and the O's aren't going to do anything to rush their future cornerstone

Regarding the above question regarding minor leagues, I meant running all A, AA, and AAA teams out of the ST complexes. Meaning the teams would play full minor league seasons, it would just all be based at the ST complexes. So there are 15 AAA teams in the Phx area, etc
Mark P
8:44
Even with the amount of backfields available at these complexes, that would be an awfully big undertaking to pull together in such a short amount of time.  So many health/safety logistics, travel, scheduling, etc.

Should I consider the front office get the boot for my Cards?
Mark P
8:46
I mean, the Cards did make the NLCS last year, so it's not like they're badly struggling or anything.  And the club continues to produce at least one good major league player from the farm system seemingly every season, so the overall pipeline is strong.
The Good Ol’ Days
8:47
I miss baseball... life just isn’t as fun without it, am I right?
Mark P
8:47
No kidding.  It's so weird to think that under normal circumstances, the first third of the season would already be over.

What do you see are the top deals / trades to be made once the restrictions on player contract activities are lifted? What do the mets do for a SP to replace Thor?
Mark P
8:50
It's quite possible we don't see any trades (or at least not any truly major trades) in the early days after the freeze is lifted, as teams will still be trying to figure out how to manage their own rosters.

Plus, trading for a player now means bringing in a player you haven't scouted or seen play in months, so there's that added risk.

8:50
Would you rather see 7 inning doubleheaders or less off days when the season begins?
Mark P
8:51
I'd pick fewer off-days, since seven-inning games represents such a fundamental change that it wouldn't seem like proper baseball.

Going from hitting .235 with the most strikeouts in MLB to the 3rd highest average in the AL raising his slugging by 150 points and his ops by 200? Don't think there was anyone else with better stat difference between 2018-2019
Mark P
8:54
But you argued for Moncada as a "comeback player of the year," which is usually reserved for players returning from a major injury or something.  If you wanted to argue Moncada was the most improved player of 2019, that's a much more solid case.

Would a Team playing in Dallas and Orlando be a trial to see if the city could hold a team permanently?
Mark P
8:55
The Rangers are virtually Dallas' team already.  As for Orlando, I'm sure they're a maybe as far as an expansion shortlist goes, though I wonder how eager MLB would be to put another team in Florida given the tribulations of the Marlins and Rays
KC Royals
8:57
What do the Royals have in minor league starting pitching?  Hear there is a wave of 2-3 coming soon.  Thanks.
Mark P
8:58
MLB.com has Brady Singer and Daniel Lynch on their top 100 prospects list, and the Royals have another recent (2018) first-round pick in Jackson Kowar who could debut as early as this season.

Does MLB need to renegotiate with ESPN, FOX, and TBS for broadcast revenue if the season resumes?
Mark P
8:59
I don't know the particulars of these contracts, but I'd assume that if the season gets underway, MLB would receive some prorated version of the original agreement.

Will there be baseball in new York ?
Mark P
9:00
Still too early to say, though Governor Cuomo said today that training camps in New York could open.
9:01
We've hit the two-hour mark, so let's call it a chat for this week.  Thanks as always for the questions, and everyone keep staying safe out there!
