The Mets rallying to make the playoffs after a catastrophic few months would be an amazing story. I wouldn't have traded Syndergaard in GM Brodie Van Wagenen's shoes without getting an incredible offer.

I'm sure they'll try to go the trade market if possible (Syndergaard?). Their farm's still tremendous, so they'll be able to land help that way. In terms of free agents, Cole? Also, Strasburg's a San Diego guy who went to SD State, FWIW. Should get a full year from Garrett Richards, too.

Betts has all but said he wants to test the market. Martinez would be taking quite a risk by opting out. I'm guessing he'll stay put for now, but my answer could change there.
