Idea for people to make money this year: teams (or the league) offer to let fans buy virtual tickets, or some sort of subscription service. Follow what movie theaters are doing. Though I'm sure complications with current television rights and all would be a huge roadblock
Mark P
7:36
I'm not sure what a "virtual ticket" would entail, or how it would differ from just watching a game on TV

7:37
What will minor league baseball look like after all this? Will 2021 be back to normal or will We see consolidation ?
Mark P
7:37
MiLB will be very different come 2021.  A lot of teams will either go under or be contracted as per the league's plan.

I know it’s on the back burner, but given that some players have accused the Astros of cheating during the 2019 season, will the Astros be reinvestigated?
Mark P
7:39
Barring a former Astro publicly confirming the accusations like Fiers did, probably not
Evan

With Bo Bichette occupying SS already for the Jays, how does Austin Martin fit in? Does he get shifted to center field, and what do you think his ETA will be?
Mark P
7:41
Martin's versatility could make him a super-util type, though I'm sure the Jays will give him a longer look at CF given the importance of the position.  If he can handle the role at the big league level, that'll be his top spot on the field.
Bo Bichette
7:42
It’s easy.  I shift to second right?
Mark P
7:42
This is also a possibility.  The Jays' infield alignment could look completely different in a few years, despite most of the same guys being on the field
Tony the Tiger
7:43
With all the pitching and now Torkelson, do you get the feeling things are looking up?  Just need Billy Chapel to unretire!
Mark P
7:43
I'd question what a 65-year-old Kevin Costner would bring to the table.  But then again, the Tigers lost 114 games last season, so it couldn't hurt
Blake
7:44
the draft. What teams do you think hit homeruns and which ones struck out looking?
Mark P
7:44
What makes the draft so interesting is that we won't truly know the answer to this question for, like, a decade.
Orioles
7:45
I know it'll be years till we can evaluate and yada yada. I don't want the thought out answer. Gut reaction, did you like what the O's did in the draft? Looks like we've locked up both of Mayo and Baumer now
Mark P
7:46
There's logic in the Orioles' strategy, specially in a year like this when there's less room to maneuver and you (especially) hope to get as much premium talent as possible with only five picks.

7:47
Percentage of players that would sit out this short season? over/under 25%?
Mark P
7:48
I don't think the number will be 25%, but there will certainly be some players opting out of playing for health-related concerns.

Until owners open they're books it's difficult to believe their motives
Mark P

Bingo.

Did GMDM save his long term job by taking the safe bet in lacy?
Mark P
7:52
It didn't seem like Dayton Moore was in any real danger of losing his job any time soon, so I'm not sure the Lacy pick impacted his job security one way or the other.

I did like that pick quite a bit, however.  Lacy seems to have a ton of potential.  I was surprised that he wasn't the first pitcher off the board, but I'm guessing money had something to do with it given how the Marlins and Max Meyer had a deal announced that same night
RayK
7:52
How about a poll? I'm on the players side.
Mark P
7:52
Whose side do you take in the dispute over beginning the 2020 season?

Owners (42% | 272 votes)

Players (58% | 376 votes)

Total Votes: 648
7:53
I left out "both" since I feel it would be the overwhelming winner.
Fans
7:54
Will fans be in the stands by August?
Mark P
7:54
Very doubtful
Short Season 4 Short Attn Span
7:58
Would you be in favor of a shorter season in general, moving forward? Not 50, but something like 120-140 with expanded playoffs?
Mark P
7:59
Expanded playoffs, not really.  I feel they make the regular season less meaningful.

As to a shortened schedule in general....I could roll with somewhere between 140-150 games rather than 162.

Boy, it sure is convenient that, as soon as news broke about this Yankees letter, all of the sudden a ton of news HAPPENS to break about the resume-of-play negotiations...OPEN YOUR EYES, SHEEPLE!

Are we watching the end of MLB as we know it? Between this a possible strike or lockout in 2021-2022, no One would come to watch or pay? Baseball is dying as it is, youth has no interest in the game anymore? Can’t argue the numbers!
Mark P
8:03
Baseball isn't doing itself any favors these days, but the "baseball is dying" argument has been being made for well over a century.  The sport will ultimately last.

Do teams use any of the drafted players this year and basically waste a year of control or wait until next year when things are back to normal
Mark P
8:06
It's pretty rare that a drafted player makes his MLB debut that very season, so it's still unlikely, even given this year's weird circumstances
George
8:06
I wonder if it is worthwhile for baseball to be played before empty stands. Is there enough money in TV revenues to make it a paying proposition?
Mark P
8:07
You aren't the first to have this question, and probably some within the MLBPA braintrust have the same feeling.
There's a difference between games without fans resulting in a team "losing money," and a team "not getting as much profit as usual."
